Title: Status of BCS playoff system

Looks like a Bama NCG highlight reel.

If he's right about most commissioners wanting conference champs for the 4 teams, that will not do college football any favors. Until now, I thought the commissioners were split on this decision. He's insinuating that Slive is the only commissioner wanting the best 4 teams, period, and then goes on to say there must be some kind of compromise on this issue. What compromise if it's 10-1 in favor of conference champions? I know the Presidents Committee will ultimately make the final decision, but this doesn't look good.

There will be a lot of lost viewing if the Top-4 teams aren't used. Who is going to set up late and see some big east or mac champion play in the tourney? My answer is nobody. College football will go away just you wait and see. JMHO! RTR!

Preacher, it may or may not come down to a Big East or MAC team, but I can see this happening. You have 10-2 record PAC-12, Big-12 and Big-10 conf. champs and an 11-1 SEC runner up. Maybe the Big East champ goes 12-0. Somebody deserving is going to get left out and the scenario is no better or worse than what we have now. Think back when LSU won the NC with 2 losses. Everybody had 2 or 3 losses at the top of the polls that year. How would that play out with only conference champs? I don't really see college football going away, but it isn't going to do it any favors.

College football fans will not "respect" a scheme that almost guarantees one of the four playoff teams is clearly inferior to one that is left out.  The human polls will have a major affect on fans' perception of which are the best four, and these polls don't care about conf championships.

Even if the top ranked team is a conf champ and wins it all, they may end up winning it vs. what are perceived to be not the strongest opponents. Thus their championship would be tarnished.

I imagine Slive will hold to his position so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

All of this is just a knee-jerk reaction to what happened last season. The other conferences are so blinded by their rage at the SEC getting both teams into the title game that they cannot (or will not) see beyond this hatred. Instead, they are willing to sacrifice what is best for college football in order to do whatever is possible to keep the SEC to one representative or, even worse, none.

I think mostly they are trying to keep the SEC from placing more than one team in the playoff.

I would rather keep the BCS than have only the conference champs in the playoff.

I have to agree with you all. This will be a sad day if they vote this way. Although how can fans have any say in this situation. To bad ESPN don't do a national poll of this thinking. RTR!
