Title: Bama Baseball woes Post by: bama87 on June 19, 2012, 01:56:26 PM I believe that there is no plan to to do away with or remodel the Joe. Here is my take on the situation. Baseball does not pay for itself. Every other school in the SEC minus aubie, has some type of lottery gambling dividends to pay for partial or all of a scholly. I believe the stadium needs to be done away with and started over. Any thoughts for or against. It is summer so just trying to hit on a topic.

The scholarship situation is definitely a problem, plus coaching might be another huge problem. Major attention must be given to the BB program to get it back on track.

The Champions Plaza is going to be tied in with the stadium and add 600 seats. The Plaza will also include a new entry to the stadium. I know that is not as much as needed but it is a start. Mal Moore and the administration have shown me they are committed to upgrading all our facilities. I think baseball will become a priority with the poor results this year. If CMG does not get things turned around we made see a upgrade in coaching staff as well.
If the program had to be profitable to get an upgrade we would not have new or improved tennis, golf, track, Women's basketball, softball, etc. Overall we have we some of the best facilities in the country. Title: Re: Bama Baseball woes Post by: bama87 on June 19, 2012, 07:46:51 PM I agree with all points. I think the state of Alabama should get in the lottery business. Most schools can offer hope schollys to attract players and we can not. I think that is the biggest problem we have when it comes to attracting players.

However, I am dead-set against casinos. Too much corruption is associated with casinos, not to mention the Mafia. :tinfoil: Title: Re: Bama Baseball woes Post by: pmull on June 20, 2012, 08:47:15 AM I agree with all points. I think that is the biggest problem we have when it comes to attracting players. There was another thread about this topic a few weeks ago. I pointed out three reasons the baseball program is struggling. Coaching, facilities and lack of hope/lottery/gambling scholarship help. However, coaching is the primary reason for our poor season this year IMO. You can over come the facility and extra scholarship money issues if you have good coaching. Good facilities and additional scholarship money will not help you if you have poor coaching. I don't look for Alabama to get in the lottery business any time soon. It has failed by a large margin every time it has been voted on. Too many Southern Baptist in this state. I am for the lottery. I am sick of our our residents going out of state to buy lottery tickets and gamble. I also think the state should tax and make revenue on the indian casinos in this state. I am afraid we are beating a dead hourse here through. :deadhorse: Title: Re: Bama Baseball woes Post by: Marshal Dillon on June 20, 2012, 03:09:55 PM I agree with all points. However, since our governor is more like the Invisible Man than a leader, he will miss this opportunity to make a case for the lottery. :wall: |
