Title: Re: Vols get their man Post by: SUPERCOACH on March 27, 2011, 07:47:53 PM I think it's a great hire :jump: ^^^THIS^^^ Way to go Vols! Title: Re: Vols get their man Post by: Chechem on March 27, 2011, 07:53:09 PM I mean, what could you expect? They're facing suspensions, lost scholarships, and bans.
It's like those comedy acts where the comedian announces he has a great trick to pull and asks for a volunteer. Who in their right mind would step forward? Title: Re: Vols get their man Post by: Marshal Dillon on March 27, 2011, 08:03:26 PM Tough call on how effective this guy will be as a coach at UT in the SEC. He was an asst. under Gene Keady at Purdue for 8 years & HC at MO. State for 3. I think with all the coming NCAA sanctions, he will struggle for a couple years at the very least. It seems his forte is defense. It was obvious UT would go a route like this due to the Pearl mess. No established coach wants to inherit an NCAA mess.

Including CAG. :D Title: Re: Vols get their man Post by: 2Stater on March 27, 2011, 08:53:23 PM I would not call this a home run hire. More like a broken bat foul ballHilarious TAZ #. Title: Re: Vols get their man Post by: Marshal Dillon on March 27, 2011, 11:39:01 PM The main thing will be, can he recruit. Pearl could and it showed. There is almost no BB talent in Tennessee, so he better have his suitcase packed. Plus, can he survive any sanctions handed down not to mention playing UK, UF, UGA, & Vandy twice a year.

True, #+ And now Arky will be better, we'll be better... Did he think this through? Title: Re: Vols get their man Post by: Jamos on March 28, 2011, 06:37:39 AM The main thing will be, can he recruit. Yep, Ole Pearl could really recruit. :problem: Title: Re: Vols get their man Post by: ricky023 on March 28, 2011, 11:41:49 AM Yea but recruiting is what got Pearls job. There is the right way and if he can do that against the likes JC@KY, CAG@Bama or Fla. he will be a masterpiece. RTR!
Title: Re: Vols get their man Post by: Marshal Dillon on March 28, 2011, 03:02:22 PM I feel like Coach Martin is like a sheep being led to slaughter. I think he will be around long enough for the impact of the sanctions to go away and then he gets fired and they find another coach.

You know the way dirty schools do nowadays you might be actually right but I would hope not. RTR! I think he will be around long enough for the impact of the sanctions to go away and then he gets fired and they find another coach. This is exactly the situation. They just need someone to babysit the program until they come out on the other side of the sanctions. I'm sure he knows what he is getting in to, and they are probably paying him enough money that he is willing to go along with it. Plus who knows, he might actually surprise everyone and do better than expected. It is not a good situation for a well known coach, but it does give someone like this a shot they probably wouldn't get otherwise. Title: Re: Vols get their man Post by: ricky023 on March 28, 2011, 03:35:17 PM Similar I think to USCw with Lane Kiffin. Coaches are lead to slaughter. RTR!
Title: Re: Vols get their man Post by: SUPERCOACH on March 28, 2011, 03:36:10 PM Yep, very similar. They will get their money though. They know what they are getting in to.
