Yeah, that is way too neat to be a FT. BAMAWV sammich. My last move in fixing a sammich is mashing it all down with my fist. I use a tbsp to spread mayo. I also will sometimes go with 4 pieces of bread instead of 2. Especially for tomato sammiches that tend to make bread soup out of 2 pieces of bread.

Any troops joining the South (BIG FISH-Ferguson) will be well fed. I'm not sure about Gen pmull but Gen. BAMAWV will retreat when he gets hungry. Flat out quit and go home when/if the groceries run out. I don't even mind marching in snow without boots.

For a state that has very little to truly be proud of, the WVU rifle team was always "The Crimson Tide of Shooting". 14 NCs since 1980. Alaska- Fairbanks was next with maybe 10 NCs. But the all time list is much more impressive. Title IX destroyed the program and at one time in the early 90s was dropped for all of a few months when public opinion forced the Athletic Dept. to reevaluate.

I see that Chechem is pouting and has now lowered himself, and the board, into booing each other. I guess he was offended by the political posts I made earlier this morning.

1-- The joke which included the president and his wife and a past president and his wife was not political in nature.

2-- The ID cards (one with Obama) came from a list of 15 fake IDs not to use. They gave reasons for not using each one and the reason for not using the one with the President's picture was obvious-- never use a photo ID of a really famous guy.

She lived next to where CNS grew up in WV.  Both listed as born in Fairmont, WV by Wiki. That may be because Wiki is inaccurate or maybe because they were born in the same hospital in Fairmont. Both of them are shy at parties.

Nuts and Bolts

In a great big disposable roasting pan mix:

4 boxes each-- wheat chex and rice chex, 2 bags fritos, 2 bags stick pretzels, 5 lbs cashews, 2 lbs pecans, 1 lb pumpkin seeds

Drizzle bacon drippings (3 cups) over mix and roast low oven 1 hour.

If the serving bowls run low, the roasting pan is full and warm in the oven-- so filler up!

LOL. I did that one night in my 20's. I stood up with my drink in my hand to go to the restroom. All the sudden my drink slipped through my hand and hit the floor. I never knew what happened but everyone else thought it was funny.

I was in Boston. The company I worked for had all staff fly in for the web launch.  We went out that night to celebrate. I remember drinking the LIIT's . I remember the bartender (we were right by the bar tender - I didn't have to get up to get my drinks) asking if I was SURE I wanted another (it was my 10-13th). I said sure, i don't even have a buzz... Oh yeah, famous last words! Time to go, I stood up and promptly went down. I remember being helped into the elevator and I remember someone unlocking my room door and asking if I was going to be okay. I said sure. The door shut and I fell on the bed until 5 am.. at which time I got REAL up close and personal with the toilet!  Lesson LEARNED

The Championship game against LSU was on ESPNU this morning. I jumped in at the 3rd qtr with the score 12-0. My wife woke up and came to the den and said "are you watching that again". Greenbrier Classic on CBS (2-5pm).

This is a great infomercial for our state. Not sure what commercials are regional and which are national, but the tourism ads are running back-to-back. So is anyone here interested in the BAMAWV theory of tourism for the state? Anyway,--here goes:

My first theory has to do with trolling and rubbernecking for hillbillies. Tourism receives a boost from neighboring states and passers through, that get off the beaten path to LOL at the stereotypical coonskin hat crowd. While it is best to remain close to the interstate highway system, if you keep your windows up and a good road map on hand, you should be OK. Another good idea is to have some plausible destination in mind, such as an exhibition coal mine or rattlesnake rafting, in case someone should ask, "What are y'all doing up this holler?"

My second theory for the numbers of tourist visiting the state is that the visitors are, indeed, displaced WV's coming home to visit or show their new family around the old stomping grounds. When workingt class West Virginians reach age 18 (with or without a diploma) We head out to find work. North Carolina, Texas, Florida, ---anywhere with jobs will do.  But at some point these people get homesick and bring the new family back to the old homestead. They travel around the state, dine in restaurants, and stay in hotels. They are almost impossible to differentiate except the corn cob pipes are not brand new from a tourist trap gift shop.

Also we have a combination of the two theories where people pack up the car and bring the new family home to laugh at the old family.  RTR

In the mid 80's the company I worked for did a big renovation project at the VA Hospital in Beckley, WV. I was the onsite Project Manager so I lived there for about 6 months. The people were great. Very friendly and the guys we hired locally were good workers. I have fond memories of the place. I stayed at a Days Inn out by the Interstate for about 2 months. The VA Administrator found out I was staying in a hotel and he got me a small rental home at Glade Springs Resort which was just outside of Beckley. It was really nice. I guess it is still there. At the time it was a very nice golf and tennis club in the summer and a ski resort in the winter. It was cheaper than staying at the hotel.

I have never been to Glade Springs but know others that speak well of it. I know they are a choice location for meetings, conventions, tournaments, and other events. I think the place has improved steadily, even since you were there. There is Stonewall  Jackson Park in the north on I-79 and then Glade Springs on the southern end of the state (I-64 & I-77/79). I would like to go see sometime.

Glade Springs was very nice. I always thought it was more of a ski resort than golf and tennis becsuse there were very few people there in the summer. The golf course was good. The tennis facility was excellant. They had indoor and outdoor hard courts and outdoor clay courts. Those are the only clay courts I have ever played.

The house I rented was more of a condo. It was a four-plex unit. It had two bedrooms with a nice kitchen and living area. The best feature was the screened in deck that overlooked the 16th fairway. I was right at the 150 yard marker. Late in the day I would go out and hit balls and play a few holes. They never said anything to me about it so I guess it was OK.

Nice clubhouse too.

I've done a lot of traveling all over our great country, but have never been to WV. I had planned on going on a recruiting trip there last year as one of the companies we represent, started up a Medicare Advantage HMO in Charleston and surrounding counties, but there was virtually no interest shown by agents that I talked to over the phone. As a result, we decided to spend our recruiting dollars elsewhere. Since then, I have heard and seen a lot about what a great pacle WV is to visit (as long as you stick to the interstates, according to BAMAWV). Might be a possible destination for Mrs. 2 and I for next year. If you had only 1 pacle to visit in WV, what would be your choice?

Glade Springs Resort Website. This place is a lot nicer today than it was 25 years ago. I could not find the housing type that I stayed in. I rented from a private owner at the time. That would be a nice vacation spot. It looks pretty pricey now.

I've been running links to the Greenbrier Hotel. Everything you AND her want in a getaway location but expensive. Championship golf, fishing (spring and fall), hiking, horses, off-roading, shooting, world class spa, shopping, world renowned chefs, and casinos/live entertainment. Serious money.

Skiing-- Snowshoe Mountain Resort (a few miles from FT. BAMAWV) is the best of the mid-Atlantic and maybe east of the Rockies. This is where all your GA., FL, AL, buddies are skiing these days. If you come here next winter (mountain biking in summer) BAMAWV promises to ski down ahead of you (backwards) making light fun of you on the way.

Trains- CassScenicRailroadStatePark--- 1/2 day or full day trip to 2nd highest location in WV.  Shay Engines over 100 years old-- kinda sorta like the old guys on the Daily Thread but way more fun (and safe) to ride.

You would make HEAVY fun of me. I've never been snow skiing in my life. In fact, as athletic as I've been most of my life, I always had difficulty water skiing.

LOL--never really met anyone that had trouble catching on to getting drug (yeah, I know) behind a boat.

I learned to ski on Lake Tuscaloosa but we never considered skiing to be skiing until you rode on 1 ski.

The state of WV is a beautiful place. I lived in Beckley for 6 months in the Mid 80's. In the 90's I was involved with a huge federal penitentiary in Beckley. In the early 2000's I helped built another federal pen in Glenville, WV.

It is a great place for outdoors activities. I have never been there in the winter but I bet that is fun as long as you don't have to do a lot of driving. When I lived there I was single and in my 20's. The people were great. I was getting invited to eat dinner at people's house all the time. I went home every other weekend but when I stayed I had a lot of fun. There was a park (state park I think) about 15-20 minutes outside of Beckley. It was a nice park with hiking trails, picnic areas and play grounds for kids, etc. There was a big bridge and a big train trestle that crossed from one mountain top to the other. I don't know how high these bridges were but I had never seen anything like it. The train trestle had a catwalk under the tracks. I guess it was for maintenance. We hopped a locked gate and walked out on that catwalk. It was fun and scary at the same time. Even though it had handrails I was scared to death.

I got invited to go boating/water skiing a couple of times. I don't know the name of the lake but in was down in between a group of large mountains. It reminded me of Lake Guntersville in the Scottsboro area with the mountains all around except these were real mountains. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.

Grilling chicken for the All Star game tonight on a new grill! Those of you that do not realize there is a difference between grilling and barbecuing need not reply, though I imagine this forum to be cookout savvy.

Some of you may recall me sqauwking about spending big bucks on a big stainless gas grill with side burners, storage, etc. It lasted maybe 2 years because the under-carriage rusted off. I considered rebuilding a base out of lumber to recycle it but in the end I just wanted it out of my sight, along with the $40 canvas cover I used faithfully to keep a STAINLESS grill from rusting. My choice for a replacement dated back to the late 70's. My Mother sent me this grill as a B'Day gift one year. This R2D2 vacuum cleaner looking charcoal grill/smoker is my all-time lifelong favorite. If I have to cook for a large crowd I'll have to buy a couple more, but these will get the job done. Kingsford and limbs from my trees (apple, oak, maple) supply the smoke.

I went to Big Bob Gibson's for supper today. The wife is out of town. Me and the 18 year old daughter worked today and we did not want to cook. Big Bob is famous for his BBQ.

I do know the difference in grilling and BBQ which is low cooking. I grill most of the time on a Brinkman gas grill for convenience. When I get serious I use my Mr. Meat Smoker. I have had it for about 20 years. It takes charcoal and I add wood a few hours before the meat is done.

I googled and found this picture. It was cheap but it does a great job. It has a water/anything wet you put in there tray between the heat and the meat.

Yep. Leave the water bowl (steamer) out for grilling. Igenerally build a larger fire (more coals) and use the lower grillface for grilling, but it is also nice to have the upper rack stuff dripping juices on the lower rack. Talk about a hobby taking over your life. Initial investment of $20-30 grand, a chase vehicle, and crew. Advertising may offset or defray some of the expense but you had better be sure you know what you are getting into, before getting the bug.  Great balloon festivals all over the country-- Albuquerque, NM is the biggest I know of but PA seems to always have balloon shows going. I bungee jumped out of one over a concrete airstrip. 

The balloon festivals here are pretty big. I don't know how they stack up on a national level. Many of the balloons are local. You may see them on a weekend morning if the wind is calm and blowing in the right direction. Some of the sponsors are pretty cool. The best I have seen is a balloon shaped and sponsored like an Old Forester bottle.

The movie theater shooter called and left his phone number for more info at a local gun range. The owner of the gun range was on TV tonight and touched on something I have been jumping up and down about since Saturday. Where did this character come up with all the money he spent in preparation for this cowardly act.

The Chief of Police (Aurora, CO) was on TV several times yesterday. He had plenty of time to hold multiple press conferences (crying like a little beotch at each one as if on cue) but when asked where the shooter got thousands for weaponry he answered, "This is one of the things we intend to look into over the coming days and weeks". OMG. When you are looking into the possibility of terror affiliation, isn't the guy's bank account, particularly the deposits, important in establishing where he worked or received money? Also this would lead to the vendors he purchased from, yielding product specifications on any bomb making material he may have purchased.

I heard on the radio today that gun sales in Aurora, CO are up 40% after the tragic shooting. The reporter said some of the sales were people wanting guns for protection. He went on to say that gun laws in Colorado after the Columbine School restricted sales of guns and people are trying to buy now before the laws are restricted again.

Legal guns are not the issue here. No one in that theatre had a gun because it was a gun restricted zone just like Columbine HS and VA Tech. Murderers don't pay attention to the laws. Bottom line: Restrictions on guns will not help.

I do not like assault weapons. I would not have a problem with them being made illegal. However, I strongly believe it is every law abiding citizen right to own a gun(s) for protection and for hunting.

(As a side note I do not own a gun and do not hunt.)

O'Reilly agreed with gun control liberals by wanting the government to make a list of all assault weapon owners. The idea was, more closely, that if you bought a fully auto weapon you would have the go on a list so the government could access you if things were to go bad where you live. Also there was mention of the registering or listing of gun owners purchasing over a certain amount of ammo,--maybe 10 cases (IDK).

This sounded innocent enough to O'Reilly since he has to come up with some way of saving the country every night and because he is not very bright.  Liberals don't go around making lists for no reason. They make the starting point something that most rational individuals can go along with,-- they try to find some common ground. But if you think, for even a second, that this will be the last you hear from them then you have rocks in your head. Before the ink is dry they will be back asking for a little more (say 5 cases of ammo, instead of 10). Baby steps until you start to get used to losing and your hometown feels like England. We are having BLT's for supper tonight. Home grown tomatos. Thats good eatin' right there.

Bingo! We have the "L" part covered also, with leaf lettuce (not head lettuce yet). We have been having cucumbers, zuchini and squash out of the garden already. 

I only have a few tomato plants. I work with a guy that has a big garden. He brings me a Walmart sack full of stuff at least once a week. The sack always has zuchini, squash and cucumbers. The drought got his corn.  :(

No biggie on the corn. Corn starts getting old the second you pull it from the stalk. We try to even have the water boiling before harvesting so it goes straight from the field to the pot.

Barry Bonds name is on the ballot for the MLB Hall of Fame. Personally, I hope does not not get in. I am convienced he was on steroids since the late 90's when his weight went from 185 to 210 in one year. He finished his career at about 228. I think it was more like 245. Not to mention his head grew to be the size of a watermelon.

Well, my purchase turned out to be a Powerless-ball.

I am moving my youngest daughter into the dorm at North Alabama today. She is excited and nervous at the same time. My wife is about to have a nervous breakdown. No more kids at home. I am studying the checkbook trying to figure out how to pay for another kid in copllege. My oldest graduated in May. At least I don't have two at the same time.

BTW, this is the 5th year in a row that Alabama State schools tuition has increased.  >:(

It's brutal.  During my time at the Capstone, tuition for a full time student increased from $1350 to $2150/semester.  The high end was Spring 2004.

Tuition at UNA is $222 per credit hour. Other state schools are similar. That is $3,330 for 15 hr which I consider full load. It is $6,600 for room, meals, tuition and fees per semester. We also bought books today at $419.

When I said it has gone up 5 years in a row that is my first hand knowledge. It may have been going up like this for years. She is a good student so she gets a small scholarship. As a white male parent with a job I don't get nothing.

As soon as I get all these rascals through school, myself with Mrs. BAMAWV want to go back to school.  The 5 of them should be able to all "chip-in" and send us, or I'll just steal things out of their yards until I make back what we've spent on their educations. Anyone want to start a new frat/sorority (OLD OMEGA? RUT RHO?)?

I saw WV post on another thread about hating to drop people off at the arport if you were not flying. It reminded me of something that happened many years ago.

I was living in Nebraska and my wife, child and I was flying home to B'ham for my grandmother's funeral. I flew out of Omaha and had a layover in Chicago. The next leg was a quick stop in Huntsville and on in to B'ham. We landed in Huntsville and the pilot said there was a problem with the plane and all B'ham passengers needed to deboard. Instead of getting another airplane they put us on a bus for the 90 minute trip to B'ham. My father was there to pick us up.

At the funeral I overheard my Dad and Uncle talking. My uncle said something along the lines of pmull seems to be doing alright. My Dad said "Yea I guess so. He said he was flying home and showed up on a bus."

That's a classic. I logged in to tell a story but now I'm not sure mine is any good. But here goes:

I rec'd a call on my business/private (unlisted) line a couple of hours ago to tell me MRSBAMAWV was sleeping around. I have a recorder in my desk, but while reaching for it I remembered taking the batteries out to put in something else. Several years ago a guy that works in our plant who was from Hartselle, a town of about 10,000, was going out with a girl who some of the guys said had a bad reputation. One guy, trying to be a good friend, pulled him to the side and told him his girlfriend had slept with every guy in Hartselle. That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan's 700,000 hunters, all of whom have now returned home safely. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that those four states alone would be the largest army in the world.

And then add in the total number of hunters in the other 46 states. It's millions more.

The point?

America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.

Is the defense lined up correctly?

Looks correct to me. What do you think is out of order?

I wasn't sure which side was the strong side.  Each side of the O has 4 guys, plus 3 guys lined up in the center.  So it is a balanced formation.  However the TE is on the defense's left side, and there seems to be more power to that side of the line.

I'm not sure what the correct call would be there, but it seems like the LB's should flip sides.  :dunno:

I think the diagram is meant to show our basic offense and defense formation.

Oh sure, I get it.  And it is a cool advertisement.  I just was curious about whether that would be considered strong left or strong right by the defense.  If I where the MLB I would probably call "STRONG LEFT!!! STRONG LEFT!!!" when those guys trotted out of the huddle.

I guess you could say that is how they break the huddle. The way they actually line up is based on the offense. That is why we have all the pointing and movement just before the snap. Good communication is required to get everyone lined up correctly. That's also why we have so much offensive movement with shifts and men in motion - to catch the defense out of position and create mis-matches.

I got a start to the season with my first HS game game last night. Austin beat Spain Park 37-24. Spain Park was pre-season # 5. Austin looked good. We had a RB gain 197 yds on 25 carries and had a 68 yd TD on a screen pass. Our RB has offers from Troy and UAB but he is holding out on a decision hoping to get a better offer. Our QB also threw for 268 yds.

I have some family in South Mississippi. I found out last night my Aunt's house has about a foot of water in it. She lives in Moss Point which is near Pascagoula. She is doing fine but her house will need major work done before she can return. She has two kids that live nearby that she can stay with so she will be OK. She lives about 10 miles North of I-10. Isaac has dropped a lot of rain on MS & LA.

IDK where to find the number of reps or number of minutes a player was in the game, but that statistical ledger would be very interesting. Not only would it show how much time the 2s received in the game, but in the case of two players of the same position getting equal time, it may show where competition for a starting role still exists. CRTUNEMAN touched on this in a thread in the quad,-- it is a subject that may prove very telling in figuring out where we stand as a team.

Missouri on the road to Athens this Saturday. The big test for Missouri and A&M is not their openers in SEC play but how they hold up after being hammered on for 2 or 3 SEC games in a row. I say they'll be gasping for breath after a few games and will be reassessing their programs much like Michigan is this morning.

I think I have seen playing time included in stats but I may be confusing football with basketball. If I get a big surge of energy I may go dig through the NCAA stats for minutes played.

I love to visit Fergusen. But in my virtual world, I can still park on that side street. I took a date there to shoot pool and play games. She was from WV also. She dropped out and went home after only a couple weeks. I met her sister maybe 10 years ago at a function at The Homestead. She said her sister said I took her out because their Dad asked me to and that we went to Ferguson because I didn't want people to see us. She was good looking-- I was broke and trying to stretch my money. I also had my picture taken with Coach Bryant at Ferguson. I wasn't ashamed to be seen with him.
