Title: Penn State tries to focus on football
Post by: BAMAWV on June 25, 2012, 05:11:10 AM
This by Lou Holtz:

Quote
"There's been a lot of great things here, but they have been marred by an individual. But it's time for us to move on. You can't let one man tarnish the tradition of Penn State."
>:(

No surprise that Holtz doesn't get it. They can't get past this. They still don't realize how their system and the top to bottom mentality at the university failed the victims and enabled child rape.

Agreed. This isn't about "one man." This is about a flawed system in which a network of people too afraid to confront the most powerful man on campus allowed "the one man" to get away with child rape for years. The NCAA may not have any authority to punish the school for something like this, but there should be investigations done by much more serious investigators (i.e. the Feds) into what happened at PSU. Sandusky is going to get his, but those who covered for him deserve their day in court as well.

All the victims and their attorney's were wanting for the outcome of the Sandusky trail before they made the next move. I bet they are all lined up at the courthouse this morning filing the civil suits. No need to go after Sandusky at this point. They will be going after the University and individuals with top admin positions. It will be years before the dust settles on this mess.

Not sure about the time frame. Penn State wants this to go away FAST. They will offer big money to each victim so they will go away and there won't be any more messy & ugly court dramas. I expect offers in the area of $2 mil-$3 mil for year victim and it could go higher to as much as $5 million each. Penn State will do anything to avoid another public trial.

I agree Penn St the school with try and get this over with quickly regardless of cost. However, administrations will be sued individually and unless the school bails them out there will be civil trials.

Even if Penn St settled all potential lawsuits today it will still be years before college football fans forgive and forget this terrible mess.

Great point about the administrators who will be tried and then the resulting civil suits against them. I forgot all about those pedophile-lovers. I wonder if Penn State is going to pay all their legal fees and any judgement given by a civil jury. Penn State may say this was outside the boundary of the admins duties and therefore not covered under any responsibility by Penn St. to pay their attorney fees and other expenses. In other words, the admins are on their own.

Yeah, I don't know the law in Pennsylvania on this.  Probably it is less restrictive than Alabama.  And I'm not convinced that PSU would pay generous settlements to resolve these cases quickly -- more likely we will see denial of responsibility.  The administrators responsible for the cover-up, aren't they gone?  Depending on Pennsylvania law, they likely are on their own, in every sence.

This is such a scandal it would embarrass even the Pope. I do however, look at all writings I can about this item, and I still see a lot of hate in this problem. It is my belief that hate is ruining this country. The sin is to be hated but not the soul of the person. He and the victims needs our prayers as often as possible. RTR!

This little string of comments shows you this is far from over.

Did you bother to read it Lee Willie. There are no NCAA violations involved. If the victims had been players it would have been borderline because the NCAA is basing it's control off of competitive advantage. Keep looking though if you really believe this. RTR

Great article, thanks for posting it. For all of Penn State's supposed remorse over this, they just want it to go away so they can pretend nothing happened and go back to acting like they are better than everyone else.

PSU is getting blistered. Coaches, or ex-coaches are facing prison time. The main character just began to spend the rest of his life in prison. Once it is all over this may cost the school $100 million (my number) paid in legal fees and settlements. But there are intangibles that cannot be so easily calculated, such as when the PSU AD calls Arizona Goat Riders University and the AD for the Goat Riders says, "Coach we'd love to play you guys, but frankly, our guys would have to wear rubber gloves the whole weekend, after we heard how ya'll act". A big circle of Goat Rider assistant coaches are heard laughing in the background as the AD hangs up the phone.

The criminal courts will take care of the felonies the same as is done every day in courtrooms and courthouses around America. Then our out of control Trial Lawyers will butcher the PSU hog and leave no scraps. The coaches and administrators will be sued out of their britches, judgments entered and executions and levies issued on every available asset of the individuals. Then in class action the same process will go after the university and their vast assets. I don't pretend to know the law but I would guess PSU would stall and let Curley and the boys get sued individually in order to see what additional damaging evidence and legal briefs were used in the civil cases filed by smaller law firms against the individuals.

I wonder how many dependable, every tax season, PSU alumni (and otherwise) donors there are that PSU alumni affairs is having touble getting on the phone? If Bama had spent my donations on an office for Sandusky I think I'd be giving to Wounded Warriors this year instead. How many recruits (we saw some in February) changed or will change their mind on PSU. Try hiring an administrator from outside the PSU family to come to work under these conditions.

The NCAA has to do absolutely nothing and these guys are getting the worst beating any team ever has. Ask the Mustangs if they could reverse time and switch places with PSU. They deserve what they are getting and with newspapers failing, I realize why the guy wrote the article. But the NCAA hasn't said a word about piling on, nor are any of the big boys (ESPN or CBS) even calling for it. Some beat writer in Nashville won't change that-- but even he admits it. This is a criminal matter and the justice system and the civil courts will deal out the punishment.

FYI, this won't be a class action because the "class" is sufficiently small and identifiable, and damages are uniquely individual.  There likely will be one, large civil suit filed or consolidated against the university and administrators.  The university might file a motion to separate the individual claims and then seek to go to trial on the weakest claim first for precendential purposes and ultimate settlement value.  The plaintiff lawyers likely will attempt to stick with one suit, at least on liability, for piling on (get the jury riled up at just how horribly PSU neglected all these children).
