Title: "Nation's best defensive duos in 2012"
Post by: Chechem on July 01, 2012, 07:33:06 AM

Quote
Today, we're doing the same on defense. We spotlight the teams with the best tandems at end, tackle, linebacker, cornerback and safety.

We do a position-by-position look, then at the end, list the 10 best defensive duos.

Ends

Best in nation: Texas. There are four candidates for this spot, with Florida State, LSU and South Carolina joining the Longhorns. We went with Texas because of the slightly better overall production from Jackson Jeffcoat (7.5 sacks, 16.5 tackles for loss, 54 tackles) and Alex Okafor (seven sacks, 12.5 tackles for loss, 47 tackles), both of whom could go in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft. .......

Worthy read, but apparently Alabama won't be a worthwhile defense this year.  :eyeroll: :eyeroll: :eyeroll: :eyeroll: :eyeroll: :eyeroll: :eyeroll: :eyeroll: :eyeroll: :eyeroll: :eyeroll:

I think it will be particularly difficult for Bama to garner many kudos from sports writers in general this year until they are forced to by our play on the field.

it's a shame that we don't have very many good sports writers anymore
most are just interested in making a name for themselves it seems  nowadays
I like to call it  shock jock penmanship ...

but it also seems when they have dissed us or left us out is when we do
the best , so I don't get to upset about it

I don't have a problem with LSU having the best DL. They are scary good. And our secondary is still young for the most part. But how can you say that Ga's LBs are better than Bama's? That's just ludicrous. Moseley and Nico both proved themselves on the field last year and they are both All American candidates. Plus there's no guarantee that any of Ga's LBs will even see the field next year. They might all be in jail with the rest of the Ga team.

I don't have a problem with this article. Our defense lost a lot of players to the NFL last year. We have good talent to step in and take their place but most sportwriters will call that potential because these guys did not start last year. We have seen them play. CNS plays a lot of players on defense and most of our guys have played crunch time minutes.

I agree with crtuneman that our LB's led by N. Johnson, Mosley, DePriest and Hubbard can play with anyone in the nation. I think safety will be a strong position with Lester, Sunseri and Clinton-Dix. The DL should be D. Square, Q. Dail and Jesse - that is pretty good too. We have Millner coming back at one corner and someone new at the other, most likely Belue. That is a solid defense but only 4 of those guys started last year.

If they evaluate these duo's again at the end of the end the outcome would be different.

Good input, pmull.  #+

I started to ask if they expected us to have top duos on D last year, then I realized that everyone expected us to be the best last year.  I agree with you, as long as we're #1 at the end, who cares what they think now!  Or, ask Michigan on September 2nd.
