Alabama sophomore Stephanie Meadow captured the 2012 Ladies British Open Amateur Championship on Saturday at the Carnoustie Golf Club by defeating Spain's Rocio Sanchez Lobato 4 and 3 in the finals.

It has been a magical month for Meadow who helped Alabama to the 2012 NCAA Women's Golf Championship and then led the Great Britain and Ireland team to a dramatic come-from-behind victory in the Curtis Cup, winning the deciding match.

Her victory at the 2012 Ladies British Open Amateur Championship earns Meadow a place in the field for the 2012 Ricoh Women's British Open at Hoylake in September.

"It has been a fantastic summer for Stephanie," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said on Saturday. "It doesn't get any better than an NCAA Championship, winning the clinching point in the Curtis Cup and winning the British Amateur. It is well deserved for a great player, who is an even better person. We are extremely excited for her, and proud of what she has accomplished."
