We knew it was happening, though it is surprising to see this guy being so public with his demands.  He sounds like a character issue -- all the hype has gone to his head -- and Bama is probably better off without him.  Saban isn't going to engage in this type of deal-making; he has more talented guys wanting to come to Bama than he has spots for already.  While this safety teammate seems credible, coaches who engage in this type of dealmaking do so at their own risk.

It may happen all the time, but it doesn't make it a good thing. I don't like the idea of one recruit holding teams hostage just so he can play with his high school friend. This guy may be super talented, but I hope this is one CNS just lets pass on by.

Well, Nkemciche can't just ask for $180,000 like Cam cause that's against NCAA rules. But he can ask for a scholarship worth at least $180,000 for his friend. I really don't see anything wrong with it, the friend is at least a SEC caliber (Ole Miss offer) so he isn't a stretch of Clemson. In fact he may be a steal for them.

My guess is that the coach rated by recruits as the most intimidating in D1 doesn't field a lot of these requests. All he has to do is flash the don't-even-think-about-taking-my-little-debbie look, and the discussion about a scholly for my best friend would be finished before it got started.

Hmmm, something is telling me that there will be problems ahead for deal making such as this.  :dunno:

This is a demand that Dabo can't meet.
What it means is MR. NKEMDICHE IS HEADING TO TUSCALOOSA.

Could be, but there are many schools that have problems getting their number of quality recruits each year that would take his offer in a heartbeat, Ole Miss being one of them. I hope you are right though.

I think we will see an NCAA rule established for stuff like this in the near future.

This kind of thing would be awfully hard to detect. It would require a way to peer into the minds of the coaches. The alternatives, such as blanket rules about the number of kids that could be taken from a given school, would fail to cover all the friend requests (e.g., same town different school) and would be unfairly limit opportunities for many athletes and smaller colleges who recruit for a small geographic area.

Why should "demands" be illegal?  No harm in asking.  Kids can ask for anything short of cash; it just shows the coaches their true colors.  Scholarship limits solve most of these problems.   :tinfoil: :tinfoil: :tinfoil: :tinfoil: :tinfoil:

It's an interesting question. It is clearly illegal for a school to buy the kids friend a land rover in exchange for signing. One would think it would be illegal to buy the kids friend a college education in exchange for him signing. The crux is proving that the scholly awarded to the friend is not motivated by genuine interest in the value of the friend to the team.

I know one thing. If he comes to TTown, he better have an attitude adjustment from "me" to "we". CNS will not tolerate a prima donna mentality to infect his team.

Dabo called his bluff.  Now Nkemdiche says he'll stay with Clemson (for now).

I'm not so sure this guy would ever buy into the CNS process. Personally I think he is afraid of failure if he comes to Bama because you have to earn playing time here, it isn't garaunteed as some schools do for the 5 star recruits.  ;)
