Title: "Don't blame Nkemdiche for throwing his weight around at Clemson"

Good for Robert Nkemdiche.

Good for him if he's trying to get his friends football scholarships to Clemson and he's using his leverage as the No. 1 prospect in the country in the class of 2013 to do it.

It's about time players used their power to get the best deal for themselves within the outdated NCAA rules.

Isn't that what coaches do all the time?

And isn't this big business?

After Nike's little reality show called The Opening, that's an open-and- shut case....

Here's the meat:

Quote
You can't jet high school kids to Nike's glorified NFL Combine in the summer and Under Armour's all-star game in the winter -- the players serving as unpaid spokesmen for the two massive shoe companies - - and complain when they start acting like entrepreneurs.

I hope Nkemdiche gets what he wants, within the rules. Why? There's a good chance that, wherever he goes, he's going to make some coach, program and school an awful lot of money.

He has his heart in the right place but this is college football. I love Coach Sweeney because he is Alabama family. I will say that this young man better be glad he didn't come to Alabama and start swinging his weight CNS would have put him straight. He as a recruit, would have been taught rules up front I am thinking. RTR!

Throwing his weight around is probably the reason he chose Clemson because there's no doubt in my mind CNS showed him the door when he asked of the same at Bama, and he should have.

I cannot imagine the gall (bitterness of spirit) it would take to start making stipulations or conditionals. This type of rudeness MAY enter the conversation with schools that, for instance, also gaurantee starting positions to high school recruits. The door is open for this type of discourse at Auburn, but not in Tuscaloosa.

Exactly WV. I stated in another thread that there are some schools that will jump on his offer in a heartbeat, if he's not too particular where he plays. At this point in time, I just don't think he fits the mold of the caliber of players that CNS is recruiting. It only takes one bad apple to spoil a barrel of them and I'm thinking this guy just might be a bad apple.

Yep, he may end up at Auburn yet.   :dunno:

To me, this is no different than paying top draft picks millions of dollars before they ever play a down in the NFL. It's absolutely crazy to give new employees the equivalent of a CEO salary on their first day on the job. In the real business world, most employees start at teh bottom with a low-level salary and work their way up. Sports is exactly the opposite. And Nkemdiche doesn't have the right to make demands when he hasn't proven himself. He's just another freshmen as far as I'm concerned.

It's more like the CEO hiring his son as his second (at an enormous salary).  Makes everyone else feel unworthy.

Yep. I'm not sure the business world is any different.  Most CEOs didn't start in the mail room.

Maybe he did and just worked real hard. LOL. But really, in most businesses, you start out as a peon when you come out of college or whatever, and you work your way up to management. The point is that in the NFL rookies get paid a ridiculous salary without ever having played a down. In college, these high school recruits are treated like rock stars before they ever step on the field. It's backwards.
