Title: Michigan supends starting running back Fitzgerald Toussaint
Post by: pmull on July 23, 2012, 03:41:17 PM
If Toussaint is not back by the opener against Alabama it will put more pressure on Denard Robinson.

Michigan head football coach Brady Hoke has suspended starting running back Fitzgerald Toussaint following a DUI arrest over the weekend. In a statement, Hoke said Toussaint is suspended from the team indefinitely. Michigan opens the 2012 season against Alabama in Dallas, Texas.

Michigan supends sophomore defensive end Frank Clark for stealing a Macbook Air laptop. That is the second supension today and the 5th of the summer.

Michigan  has been suspended from the Wolverines' football team after he was charged with second degree home invasion, which is a felony.

"We are aware of the case regarding football student-athlete Frank Clark," Michigan coach Brady Hoke said in a statement. "This is a serious accusation and we will follow the lead of the judicial system. Frank was and will continue to be suspended pending the outcome of the investigation."

Clark, 19, appeared in 12 games for Michigan last season and was expected to compete with sophomore Brennen Beyer for the starting rush end position when fall camp begins next month. He had 10 tackles and one interception as a freshman.

They ARE kids, after all.  Who among us never got into trouble?
You can bet the Alabama staff is aware of the news too, Jamos.

These young adults aren't kids anymore but they sure act like them. ;)  :D

I was 5-6, 172 once-- when I was 12. Keep this thread handy until we see who starts on September 1.

If you suspend them in the summer you would have to think they will miss at least the first game. If not what do you tell them? You are suspended so you can not practice but stay in shape you will be starting opening game.

The general consensus among Mich fans is that sophomore Rawls is next in line behind Toussaint.  He's similar to Ingram in size and style, but hasn't proven himself.  He did break all of Ingram's Mich HS rushing records.  There's a bit of excitement around this kid's potential, but he's a one-cut-and-go type of back and the fanbase has a wait-and-see attitude.  If Toussaint is suspended for the game (which is likely), this is a major blow to their offense as they are a run-first O with the RB as the first option.  It cannot be understated that Toussaint is THE guy at tailback for them, and there is a potentially major dropoff at #2.

If I were them I'd want to get suspended for the first game. Might significantly improve one's chance of surviving to the second game.

Lining up their excuses in preparation for Sept. 1.

BTW, I watched a 1 or 1.25 special on Hunter Thompson last night. I have read Fear and Loathing but the guy's life mirrors the Gonzo Journalistic attitude down to and including his cause of death (suicide). Amazing "cast of characters" surrounding him in life.
