Quote
The family of Joe Paterno on Friday demanded an appeal of the NCAA's unprecedented sanctions against Penn State for its leaders' role in concealing the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal, according to a copy of the letter sent to the NCAA and obtained by "Outside the Lines."

Apparently they are under the delusion that the Paterno name still wields some power.

These folks are so out-of-touch and just can't let go. This will go nowhere.

The Paterno family argues that they have standing to file an appeal because the NCAA's bylaws say an "involved individual" can file an appeal. Sollers says the Freeh Report, which the NCAA accepted for its inquiry, and the NCAA sanctions both mention Paterno by name.

NCAA spokesman Bob Williams did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But if the NCAA rejects the request for an appeal hearing, the Paterno family could use the request as the basis for legal action against the NCAA.

I guess the family hasn't figured out the "involved individual" is Joe Paterno and he is dead. End of appeal rights.

The Paterno family should have as much class as the Penn State nation THOUGHT Joe had.

I am thinking that if such a disaster ever hit my family (God forbid), I'd want to shut up and be quiet until it blew over in 40-50 years.

Heck, all they are doing is stirring it up so it stinks that much more.

Guilty or not, let ol' JoePa rest in whatever peace he has now.

For one, after Jerry gets his sentence, all I want to hear is that he died of a, shall we say, "happening" in prison.

You are right. Penn State and most of the fans want to move on, but the selfish, arrogant family of Paterno wants to drag this thing out for the next 5-7 years. Penn State will completely turn their back on these folks if they don't shut up.

When will these people just shut up and go away?

After 40 years of the Paterno family being top dog in the entire area and now being placed in the same category as child rapist enablers, they want the power and prestige of the name back. The have had their way for so long, they can't give up the power the name used to carry with it.
