Title: TCU Football & Drug Use: Refresher
Post by: Marshal Dillon on August 14, 2012, 07:05:02 PM
Just wanted to remind everyone of this scandal, which was not widely reported due to Penn State situation. Add UNC academic fraud, 4 Auburn players doing a home invasion, Michael Dyer, Honey Badger, Crowell at Georgia, and it seems everything is coming to a head in college football.

Quote
TCU football players told undercover officers that drug use was widespread among the team, according to affidavits released Wednesday after the arrest of 18 people, including four players, on drug charges.

Quote
The documents say that coach Gary Patterson sprung a surprise drug test on the football team on Feb. 1, National Signing Day, and that Brock later told an undercover officer that there "would be about 60 people being screwed" as a result of the test. Sources said Patterson ordered the drug test after a prize recruit told him that he would not attend TCU because of drug use by players.

During a drug buy, an undercover officer asked Johnson about the surprise drug test.

"What can they do? Eighty-two people failed it," Johnson said.

I tried to Google a list of colleges that have been lit up by the NCAA, under investigation, or are on probation with sanctions. I couldn't find one. But here is who I remember.

PSU
TCU
Roller barn
Baylor
UNC
Boise St.
USC
Oregon
UCF
Miami
tOSU
Uconn
UCheat

I'm just curious as to how many total schools there are. There's 13 here, alone. Feel free to add to the list as these are all the ones I can remember.

TCU was not an NCAA issue, but a drug bust by the DEA. I had forgotten about Tressel and Ohio State, UCONN, Boise State, and Baylor. Man, what a list and the number of teams and issues is really disturbing.

Yeah, you're right about TCU, but you got the point I was trying to make. I don't recall ever having seen this many schools involved with the NCAA.

"As I heard the news this morning, I was first shocked, then hurt, and now I am mad," Patterson said. "Under my watch, drugs and drug use by TCU's student-athletes will not be tolerated by me or any member of my coaching staff. Our program is respected nationally for its strong ethics and for that reason the players arrested today were separated from TCU by the University. I believe strongly that young people's lives are more important than wins or losses."

so ? he got a tip about the undercover investigation ?

Surely Patterson and other coaches learned a little about sweeping things under the rug to protect their wins and rankings, Joe Paterno left a bold message for all of them.

Amazing isn't it. A recruit had to tell Patterson that he had a drug problem on his team.

Not trying to pile on TCU here or say that I or anyone else is better or worse than anyone else, but you have to wonder about the continued use of the word "Christian" in Texas Christian University. Are they trying to use TCU more to get away from that, much like UAin'tBama tries to do the same thing?
