Title: Mississippi State Expanding Stadium
Post by: Marshal Dillon on August 16, 2012, 08:25:13 AM
This kind of money for 8800 seats?

Quote
The final price tag: $75 million, down slightly from initial projections of $80 million. The new capacity: 61,337, after the addition of more than 8,800 new seats/cowbells. (

 ???

Well, they probably don't offer a "business" major, either. So, 8,800 more people get to watch us kick their azz evey other year, huh?

That's close to what we paid for the SEZ expansion and 9000 seats, right?  I'm sure there are some additional amenities involved beyond the seating, just like with our expansions.

A good way to stay in the lower tier of the SEC is to have lower tier facilities. With this expansion they still rank 12 out of 14 in seating capacity. They rank ahead of traditition football powers Vany and Kentucky.

Mississippi State will begin a $75 million expansion of Davis Wade Stadium, with the project expected to be finished ahead of the 2014 season.

The school announced Wednesday that the expansion will add more than 6,000 seats to the existing stadium, pushing the capacity to 61,337. It also includes plans for a second high-definition video board, premium seating, restrooms and concession stands.

Mississippi State president Mark Keenum said expansion was necessary because of growing demand from alumni. The Bulldogs have sold out 16 straight games and have a waiting list for season tickets. Even with the expansion, Mississippi State's stadium capacity will rank just 12th out of 14 programs in the cash-laden Southeastern Conference.

It is probably better to keep your stadium small enough that you can still sell it out instead of having to put up billboards everywhere begging people to buy tickets.
