Title: Vandy/USCE Thoughts Post by: crtuneman on August 31, 2012, 08:17:35 AM After watching the game last night, I was not very impressed with either team. Vandy had plenty of chances to win that game but their terrible offense blew the opportunities. Vandy had too many negative plays and stupid turnovers, and their offensive playcalling was highly suspect. Vandy's D played well and kept them in the game, but the offense was terrible. Take away those 2 long passes that Rodgers somehow completed and Vandy isn't even in this game. Rodgers got away with some really bad throws, like the one across his body, floating in to the middle of the field. I still can't believe he completed that. The Gamecock's secondary was out of position and missed plays most of the night. They did make a few nice plays. Lattimore ran very well, but when Shaw went out USCE was done. Their offense was inept without Shaw. And Shaw is a good runner who can throw, but he needs to learn to stay in the pocket and make his reads. They may get better, and they may get lucky, but I just don't see USCE in the hunt for the East title this year. Especially if Shaw is hurt for any length of time. Of course, if Murray at Ga gets hurt, then that changes everything as well. Anyway, that's my thoughts. Now let's get ready for some Crimson Tide football! Roll Tide!

Title: Re: Vandy/USCE Thoughts Post by: Chechem on August 31, 2012, 08:37:09 AM Vandy played well (for them), but suffered from penalties on offense. They are missing a few players to be competitive all year, but at least their new coach had them playing well.
USC, not so much. NO WAY Shaw lasts the season. He'll get killed. As said above, neither team is a contender. USC shouldn't be in the top 10 or 15. Maybe about 22nd. Title: Re: Vandy/USCE Thoughts Post by: SUPERCOACH on August 31, 2012, 08:38:22 AM You guys pretty much nailed it.
Title: Re: Vandy/USCE Thoughts Post by: crtuneman on August 31, 2012, 09:08:54 AM Cool. I made the front page. Yeah, the penalties and negative plays really killed Vandy. After Shaw went out and Vandy had the lead 13-10, they got the ball back on USC's side of the 50, and promptly went backwards on every play. And I don't know who their OC is, but he needs to change his philosophy. How do you call a throw-back screen play at the 3 yd line, where Rodgers has to turn and throw back across the field while being chased by the entire USC Dline? That was a ridiculous call. And I was also surprised that Vandy abandoned the running game after that first drive. For most of the 1st and 2nd qts they kept letting Rodgers throw it, and I was thinking why are they not even trying to run? Vandy's D will keep them in a lot of ball games, but I don't expect them to score many points.
