Title: HBO: Auburn Had Chances To Comment.....
Post by: ssmithhhh on March 31, 2011, 02:27:28 PM
..on player payout report.  Hmmm...."read to them in detail...".

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/football/ncaa/03/31/auburn-player-payouts.ap/index.html

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- HBO says Auburn athletic officials chose not to comment for a report in which four former players said they were paid thousands of dollars during their recruitment or college careers.

HBO spokesman Ray Stallone released a statement Thursday, a day after Tigers coach Gene Chizik said he wasn't contacted ahead of Wednesday night's episode of "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" and called the report "pure garbage."

Stallone said producers called the sports information department and "read to them in detail" allegations made by Stanley McClover, Chaz Ramsey, Troy Reddick and Raven Gray.

Three of the players said they received multiple payments from unidentified Auburn supporters. Gray was injured and never played for Auburn but said he received from $2,500 to $3,000 during his recruitment.

Title: HBO: Auburn Had A Chance To Respond
Post by: crtuneman on March 31, 2011, 02:29:48 PM
So Chizik says that Auburn did not have the opportunity to respond to the allegations of McClover and the rest, but HBO says they contacted the SID of Auburn and read them in detail the allegations, and Auburn chose not to respond. So Cheezit is a liar. Or an idiot. Or both. Every time the Aubs try to do damage control they just end up looking worse. You would think they would learn the vaule of a simple "no coment". I am truly enjoying this. Roll Tide!

This is becoming a national epidemic. The NCAA is going to be seriuosly over worked here in the next few months. Let's see now, we have:

Auburn with the Cam Newton situation
Auburn with the HBO special
OSU with the selling memorabilia thing
Oregon with whatever they did
T A&M and Willie Lyles
UNC may have more stuff
Tennessee with all of their stuff
USC and their appeal

Who am I leaving out? Maybe we would do better if we count who is not going to be on NCAA probation.  :P

At least we know Saban will still be standing, along with Bama. It's nice to have a guy at the helm that does it the right way.

Oh yeah, forgout about Dez Bryant and the Okie State situaton. Also, LSU is being investigated for their contact with street agents. The only one we can be sure is not cheating is Vanderbilt, because it wouldn't do them any good. LOL

Cheezit was dumb to respond to the HBO show when he did -- (he should have left that to the SID for the first go round) -- and now he has been discredited.  All he did was make matters worse for the Barn.

Will be interesting to see how long the echo from the HBO show lasts.

The Ducks are in it over their heads.  They're going down in flames.
