Title: *** "Razorbacks practice Thursday without star QB Tyler Wilson"
Post by: Chechem on September 13, 2012, 07:04:33 PM

I hate when coaches play these games!

Arkansas' star quarterback did not practice Thursday...

"I got no answers," Arkansas coach John L. Smith said after Thursday's practice. "Nothing for you today." ...

Why didn’t he practice Thursday?  "He was busy," Smith said.

Coaches treat injuries like they are CIA secrets. It's ridiculous.

Does he really believe anyone is buying that?

No way he plays Saturday.

One thing that people need to understand is that because of the HIPAA regulations concerning the health and healthcare of an individual, information can't be divulged without the express written consent of said person. That is why there is more secrecy today than 10 years ago. Not saying that is the case with Wilson, but it could be.

Horsesocks!! (interesting image comes to mind).
That is outdated with football players.  Players sign that away when they first arrive on campus, plus sign forms to allow parents to be notified should injury or other problems occur, and for parents to discuss grades with university personnel.  In fact, most students on campus have signed permission for the university to release information (to parents at least).

If that's the case..................

I really wasn't aware of that. As it turns out, I know a lot more about healthcare than what happens after a recruit signs up to play college football.  :-[

We're talking about the media, not parents.  You don't hear any coach talking much about injuries these days, certainly not Saban.

In all seriousness, you have to designate in that paperwork who to release the information to. If you only specify parents, the parents and only those involved in billing and claims have a right to that info.

Here is what Coach Saban said after the Michigan game:
Quote
Robert Lester has a shoulder stinger. Reggie wrangle got an ankle. Jesse Williams has a mild concussion, and Trey DePriest has an ankle sprain. So those guys all left the game and did not return. Everybody else returned and played, and so that’s it for the injuries.

I just don't believe Wilson will play. He has had no real practice, with today being the last real one. Concussions are serious business. They should not be taken lightly.

Reminds me of when I was walking my 100 lb labrador when he was accousted by a 10 lb weiner dog, except my dog had a sense of humor about the "attack."

I say patient confidentiality is between doctor and patient and once either of them give info out it is fair game to all. Therefore when the attending physician tells CNS what is wrong it is then unprotected. As to why a coach may chose not to discuss the injury with the media, he is probably uncomfortable speaking about medical specifics along with not giving the enemy intel.

I think the general rule is if you dont practice on a Thursday you dont play in the game. Dont think it will matter if he does or not.

I figured my score with him not playing cause it stands to reason, if ULM hit him that hard, do you want to face the front 7 of Alabama, not hardly. RTR!
