Title: Coal Mining Layoffs Because of Obama Post by: BAMAWV on September 26, 2012, 07:47:14 PM http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/09/19/romney-pro-business-groups-blame-obama-polices-on-recent-mine-closings/
I keep in touch with a mine superintendent in Southern West Virginia. He said he has had to hire a couple guys just to escort the number of federal inspectors in and out. They are around every day costing money which is transferred to electricity bills. Title: Re: Coal Mining Layoffs Because of Obama Post by: pmull on September 26, 2012, 08:38:57 PM Quote Kevin Crutchfield, the company’s chief executive officer, said the lay-offs and the closings of the non-union mines are the result a difficult market in which power plants are switching to abundant, less-expensive natural gas and "a regulatory environment that's aggressively aimed at constraining the use of coal." The layoffs hurt the coal industry but that is just the beginning. In the South most power plants are coal fired. Coal is an important resource to more than the coal miners. Look for power bills to go up. BHO does not have a clue how to lead this country out of the recession we are in. The economy sucks and the national debt keeps rising. What else to these swing states need to see? Title: Re: Coal Mining Layoffs Because of Obama Post by: pmull on September 26, 2012, 08:41:22 PM WV, this article specifically states non-union coal miners being laid off. IS BHO targeting the non-union mines or is this also affecting union miners?

IS BHO targeting the non-union mines or is this also affecting union miners? Both. WV is a strong union state because of coal mining. But Obama was beaten handily here in 2008. You can maybe guess why.Title: Re: Coal Mining Layoffs Because of Obama Post by: BAMAWV on September 26, 2012, 09:17:00 PM Quote Kevin Crutchfield, the company’s chief executive officer, said the lay-offs and the closings of the non-union mines are the result a difficult market in which power plants are switching to abundant, less-expensive natural gas and "a regulatory environment that's aggressively aimed at constraining the use of coal." Obama is destroying the coal industry with regulation with no end in sight.
I used to work in southern WV before I was transferred to Texas. There is very little there in terms of economic opportunity except coal mining. Those small towns depend on mining and without it, I fear there is little hope for some of them. I met some fine folks while working there. It is such a shame this is happening to them. Title: Re: Coal Mining Layoffs Because of Obama Post by: Merk on September 28, 2012, 02:24:52 PM One other interesting aspect is that Obama has done something that hasn't been done in the history of the coal mining industry. He has brought coal management, workers unions, and the workers themselves together in one common cause: their very economic survival.
All these groups will vote Republican in an attempt to save their companies and jobs. Wonder what their forefathers would have thought about this?? They are to blame for more problems in WV than any politician. They intentionally kept the Obama promise to bankrupt the coal industry quiet until after the '08 election. Even then, this liberal newspaper has refused to acknowledge it. McCain still won hands down.
