Title: My Take On Saturday Night
Post by: crtuneman on September 30, 2012, 12:37:29 PM
After watching all the chicken littles and doom-and-gloomers on some other boards, I would like to offer my opinion on the game Saturday. First of all, I agree with everything Coach said in his breakdown. Play was sloppy last night and there were a lot of mistakes. Bama has a lot to improve on. You can make excuses like it was a late game, Bama was uninspired, etc, but the bottom line is we didn't play like we are capable of playing.
Secondly, I was very puzzled by the game plan. I thought offensively our play-calling was vanilla and unimaginative. It seemed like the only 2 run plays we called were the stretch play and the dive play. I didn't see any cut-backs, reverses, misdirection, or anything like that. And I didn't see a lot of pre-snap motion or formation changes. Maybe the coaches had a reason for this, I don't know. But I thought our play-calling was as vanilla as I have seen all year.
Third, Ole miss is better than that game against Tx showed. They have talent and they played with passion and fire like they have never played before. Hugh Freeze is a good coach and he had those boys ready to play. Also, their game plan was outstanding and for the most part they did a great job executing it, esp defensively.
Last, Bama may not be the best team in the country, but if they are not, then who is? LSU looked awful against Auburn and Towson. Ga struggled against a bad TN team. USC lost to an average Stanford team. WVA is a joke and they almost got beat by a very bad Baylor team. FSU was sleepwalking against an average USF team. I don't see a perfect team in all of college football.
So yes, Bama looked rough last night. But think about this: OM played the best game they have played in a long time, and Bama still beat them by 3 scores. ANd I will take that every day.

Good post.  You are right about there not being a perfect team this year.  Hopefully we can emerge as that team over the next few weeks.  I was thinking about moving Bama down a notch in my poll this week, but I honestly can't find anyone that deserves to be ahead of them right now.

good take on things Tune  #+

btw ...
speaking of doom and gloomers ...
I saw a tweet earlier , something to the effect of ...

"we have ask the Governor to lower the flags to half staff tomorrow in
light of OM leading the Tide for 15 seconds in Saturdays game"

Bama can not get up and play great every game. It speaks volumes when they play a poor game and win by 19 points.

Bama has still looked the best team, until further notice.

You are correct, CR, it was as vanilla as I've seen it. And I can't help but think CNS just doesn't want to show our stiffer competition anything he doesn't have to. Makes us fans a little nervous, however.

That's the price you pay when you are the best. ;)
