Title: One of heroes of 1992 is happy Tide still wins (Derrick Lassic)
Post by: pmull on October 01, 2012, 08:56:03 AM
Good arcticle about Derrick Lassic by The Daily Bama Blog and Decatur Daily writer Mark Edwards.

Quote
Twenty years have passed since Derrick Lassic helped run Alabama to a 13-0 season and a national title, but it feels like yesterday to the former All-SEC running back.

These days, Lassic sits in the stands for two or three games a year instead of pulling on a No. 25 Alabama football jersey, but he said that other than that, it doesn’t seem like that much has changed for the Crimson Tide since 1992.

Lassic said it’s fun and kind of satisfying to see that Alabama still is winning consistently today under Nick Saban as his Crimson Tide team did under Gene Stallings.

And Alabama is doing it the same way: Strong defense, a powerful running game out of a pro-style set and a business-like approach to every game on the schedule. That includes Saturday night’s game against Ole Miss.

“Coach Stallings came to us from the NFL, too, like Coach Saban did,” said Lassic, 42, who was the Sugar Bowl most valuable player of the Tide’s title-clinching win over Miami.

I have a painting of Lassic signed by him.  Wife got it for me a few years ago.

In 1992 the NCAA allowed players to have a little fun in the end zone. Sherman Williams had the "Sherman Shake" and Derrick Lassic had a Fred Sanford heart attack. It is still hard for me to believe Coach Stallings allowed that but it was fun. Everything is fun when you are winning.

That would be nice.

I just emailed the Finebaum Radio Network asking for Coach Stalling mailing address. Every Friday he tells someone if they send him a book or a picture with a return addressed stamped envelop he will sign and return it. I want to get his book "Another Season" signed.

Yes, but the NZAA was not the Emperor of all things back then. I am sad to see this Emerick guy be so high and mighty over everybody. I really think he is power sick. RTR!

#25 was pretty good at gymnastics too after he scored if I remember correctly.
