Title: Second-ranked Tide is the No. 1 seed for NCAA Gymnastics Championships Post by: pmull on April 04, 2011, 07:26:43 PM TUSCALOOSA - The Alabama gymnastics team still is not ranked No. 1 in the nation, and it didn't post the top regional qualifying score in the nation.
No matter. The second-ranked Crimson Tide will go into the 12-team April 15-17 NCAA Championships in Cleveland, Ohio, as the top-seeded team. Florida remains the nation's top-ranked team, but the Gators barely qualified for the national meet. They finished second in the NCAA Denver Regional, edging Boise State by .025 of a point. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/04/second-ranked_tide_is_the_no_1.html Title: Re: Second-ranked Tide is the No. 1 seed for NCAA Gymnastics Championships Post by: cbbama99 on April 04, 2011, 07:41:35 PM That is great for the ladies, but I have to admit that how the rankings in gymnastics work befuddles me.

The fact we are the No. 1 seed tells me the people who know gymnastics thinks we are the best team in the country. The ladies have been impressive at the SEC meet and the Regional. It looks like they are peeking at the right time. The rankings they are listing haven't changed since the end of the regular season. Those rankings are based on each teams Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). The RQS is the average of a teams top 2 home scores and top 3 away scores. The seedings for the National Championships are based on the National Qualifying Score. The NQS is the RQS plus the score each team had in their regional meet. If you'd like to see the full information, http://www.troester.com/gym/WRankings/2011/Final/WTeamAll.htm Like the regionals, there will be gymnasts who qualified for the individual events on Sunday, April 17th. Here's the list with all the qualifiers... http://www.ncaa.com/news/gymnastics-women/2011-04-04/gymnastics-selections-announced Title: Re: Second-ranked Tide is the No. 1 seed for NCAA Gymnastics Championships Post by: MDB Tide Roll on April 04, 2011, 09:38:59 PM The article mentions that we drew a bye for the first rotation. We will be following Oregon State, they start on floor. Florida will be right behind us, they drew beam for the first rotation.
This is actually a good draw for us. We are strong on beam. Oregon State will have finished all their events and will be on a bye for the final rotation (like we were at Regionals and SEC). Our ladies will know what we need to do to win the prelims with Oregon State done and Florida competing at the same time. The top 3 teams in each round of the prelims will advance to the finals on Saturday afternoon. Like the regionals, our ladies won't have to be perfect to advance, they need to save perfect for the finals on Saturday.
