Title: Is anybody watching American Idol this year?
Post by: Crimson Phoenix on March 03, 2011, 02:34:18 PM
I think the new judges captured an amazing amount of talent.  :)  There are so many good singers that it is hard to predict which ones will be the last standing.

To me, Pia Toscano was the best female singer last night...and Casey Abrams was the best male singer Tuesday night.

I had to rebuild the motor on my chainsaw so I missed it

but if I would have watched I would agree with you wholeheartedly .
and probably say the addition of Steven and Jennifer are working great
like you said they have gathered a very good group of kids this year
and if I would have watched I'd say this year should be a great one .

not that I watched or anything

I have watched 1 episode and that was in the 1st year it was on. Not really my cup of tea.

I only watch the beginning of the season when the people make fools of themselves.  Otherwise just not entertaining to me.  They all sound good to me at the end.

I accidently saw the recap last night and those dudes were awful.  Pretty sure all but one of them is gay, and whats up with the girl?

Title: Re: Is anybody watching American Idol this year?
Post by: Crimson Phoenix on March 03, 2011, 05:45:26 PM
I think the guys are very talented as a whole....4 or 5 of them especially.
But you are probably right that about half of them are on the gay side.  No wonder most of the men here don't watch it.  ;D

The girls are just as talented....with only a few so-so performances.

I don't like the show so much that I'm going to watch for two hours tonight waiting to see who is voted off. ::)

I overheard the girls talking saying the right 10 got in the finals ?
Diana Ross got voted off but got to sing for the judges & Sly Stallone too
and mini-me carrot top is gone the little Asian guy with the goggles too ...

sorry I can't be more help  ;D

Best one was Scotty. That guy is ready to start recording in Nashville right now. He is the best young country singer I have seen in a long time

That's funny. I refuse to watch the auditions because people making fools of themselves isn't entertaining to me. I know, that's weird and all but I just don't get it.
However, I haven't watched this season so far - At first it was because they were having auditions and then well, it comes on Wednesday nights and thats the night i watch other stuff (Criminal minds, modern family, better with you).

Scotty is amazing....he is a real throwback to the old days of country music.
My next favorite is Casey Abrams...and his jazz sounds.

Way more talent this year! In fact, I'm not sure any of 2010's top 12 would have made the Top 24 this year. Casey, Scotty, Pia, James Durbin are all really good.

I see old CP still is posting about Idol and other nonsense.  You, you.... Nah..I can't do it.    :D

CP and I are actually e-friends.  The years-long "nemesis" joke is revealed at last.  She actually directed me to this site.

Can our truce sustain?  Will she incur further references to a certain holiday cake?  Stay tuned!     ;)

Hey ssmithhhh...so glad you decided to join us...hope you will not refer to me as "old" or Christmas cake-like on our fine new site. I'm trusting that you have changed your ways! :)

Here's an e-credit....enjoy! ;D

I'm looking forward to watching American Idol tonight and seeing more of all of them.  I have favorites but the overall talent is SO good.

Ahhh...nice decision on the avatar change.  Much better.  Now, now...I never inferred anything with respect to "old".  Tsk Tsk. Well, maybe in the old days.   ;)  You know all of that was just in jest, though it did get carried away at times.

I'm not sure what "e-cred" means...yet.  But how ironic you gave me the first one.   :)

I'll have to take your word on "Idol".  Along with TS, I left that addiction a few years ago.  Now - it's Survivor and Amazing Race.  And House.  And The Defenders.  And...well you get the idea.

I watch AI, and have watched for many years.  I think this year's crop of finalists is really, really good when compared to recent years.

To me, Scotty is a copycat--he sounds just like one or two other country artists who are making records today.  He sang one guy's songs the first two times he sang.

I really liked Paul, but then I found out he went to Auburn.  :o

I like Casey, James is a weirdo, Jacob can sure sing but something's just not right about him, and Stefano seems like a good guy but just doesn't do it for me.

As for the girls, they've been pimping Lauren since her audition episode, so I figure that will probably backfire by the time the finale rolls around.  I really don't like Karen for some reason (maybe the constant, in your face "I'M A LATINA, BABY!!!" screams?).  I'm not a big fan of Haley at all, because, frankly, a 16-year-old has no business shaking her rear end on stage like that.  It looked ridiculous.

So far...it seems like no one is doing as well as last week.  And Paul danced around like a little pixie.

Pia is coming up next.  How can she not do well.  Pia is probably the best female singer of all.

I swore I wouldn't be but I'm hooked on AI again.  I really like the two new judges.  Steven is really a nice guy and I love his shirts and jewelry and I'd like to go to his garage sale!  Jennifer is much nicer and classier than I expected.  It's kind of strange having Randy play the bad guy!

My favorites so far:  Guys: James, Casey, Scotty, Jacob
                             Gals:  Pia, Thia, Naima, Haley

The Atlanta Journal Blog reports that Casey has ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease which affects the lining of the large intestine.   He was given two pints of blood. Hopefully, they can get it under control or he will have to drop out.  That would be a real shame.

I watched tonight.  I find myself looking forward to the show just to see what shirts and jewelry he will wear!  I loved tonight's outfit too!  I definitely want to go to his garage sale!
And he can be so funny with his comments - they just come out!  He is so much more fun than bored, sour Simon.

Oh yes, there were contestants too.  My favs still - James, Casey, Thia and Pia.  I think Scotty is Nashville bound no matter where he comes in on Idol.  A great country voice in the line of the old country singers.  Thia, at 15, may just be too you to keep it on the road, which is a pity because she has a beautiful, pure sound.

I think Naima is probably headed home.  Sang first and not that well.  Too bad because she has a great look.  It's okay with me if they send Paul home - I don't care if he's from Huntsville.  Dances like a chicken with its head cut off.  His voice has a different sound but it's just not that strong.  Third for the bottom three, Karen Rodriegez - she's just kind of irritating.

Allie, what did you think?

Title: Re: Is anybody watching American Idol this year?
Post by: Allie on March 16, 2011, 10:02:45 PM
I agree...
I found myself cringing when Paul was singing.  His facial expressions bother me too.  It's like he's stuck on HAPPY.

When Thia gave her bday I thought "She's 2 years older than my son."  Wow.. - such a strong voice.

Lauren did much better, bless her heart.

Karen sang well but she has no identifiable personality.

Not Caseys best night, IMO, but he was still better than some of the others.
He has shown that he can sing.

I <3 James.

Karen probably deserved to go, the whole Latin American Idol thing hurt her imo. The field is quickly separating into the top 4-5 and the rest so judges aren't going to save anyone not in the perceived top group.

Are you watching Idol?  Steven wear marvelous spangly or ruffled shirts  and bright coloros and loads of necklaces.  He has worn some Shannon Koszyk Jewelry and that stuff ain't cheap! He is a real fashion icon - for women!  Guess I'm the only one who thinks so tho! ;D

Probably worth it if they'll throw in some of Steven's blouses and jewelry!  Otherwise I think I'll pass.  Can't play a note and a border collie would probably find it to be a great chew toy.  I'll wait for the wardrobe auction! :D

I expected to hate Steven Tyler - I'm not sure why but some aging rock star just didn't sound like a great judge.  Instead I just love him!  He wears really unique clothes which I love and he is just funny and quirky.  And every so off he lets loose a note that is just stratospheric!  The panel is much more fun this year.

As for the talent, I think the men are stronger.  James Durbin has Aspergers and Tourette syndrome and you will note his squints and blinks which are an indication of the Tourettes.  Apparently he was taunted about his problems when he was young so it is so great to see the audience react positively to him.  I think he is my favorite because of this.  But their is so much more talent this year and the show is just all over more fun.

Ricky…you have posted five times in this thread saying that you don’t watch the show and that the name “idol” makes you nervous.  So, do you really take the title literally, or are you just joking?   ;D

As for me, I don’t take the name “idol” in the title seriously or literally.  I like to think that we (the viewers) are watching and supporting the God-given talents of these kids.  And isn’t it great when people are able to earn a living doing something that they really love?  This show is giving them that chance.

Of course, teenagers and ssmithhhh sometimes get gigantic
crushes on some of the contestants…but that isn’t the same as worship is it??   :-\

American Idol smoked tonight!  My guy James had the pimp (last) spot on the schedule and blew them out of the park!  Almost everyone was absolutely at their top performance.  Motown night seemed to bring out the best in them.  My bottom 3 - Stefano, Haley and Paul.  Wish it would be a guy so 5 guys and 5 gals would go on tour.

Steven says some of the funniest things I've ever heard.  His creativity with thoughts is only excelled by his high notes! #+

I agree completely on your placing of the contestants  kupkake

my wife said Steven was a little quite tonight on some of the contestants ?

I was reading the canes in game thread and watching the game with one eye and
AI with the other one ... but I could hear AI most of the time , I agree , James won tonight .

I made fun of Paul  :-[ and did it without any helium to change my voice  :o  :sorry:

My predictions for the last contestants standing:
Pia Toscano
James Durbin
Scotty McCreery
Casy Abrams
Paul McDonald (originally from Huntsville)
Stefano Langone.

Paul did better last night because holding a guitar kept him from dancing. #+

I think that the next ones cut might be:
Thia Megia (maybe tonight)
Lauren Alaina
Naima Adedapoor
Haley Reinhart

I think James is the best right now. Pia is really good but needs to liven it up some and Motown week would have been a good opportunity. I don't care for Paul or Stefano, maybe Stefano goes home tonight. But however it turns out, the top 5-6 are really really good this year.

Right now...I think James may win the whole contest...but it is amazing how popular Scotty McCreery is.  You wouldn't think country music would be this popular across the rest of the country.  Scotty is such a throwback to the old country singers....and is really a breath of fresh air with his clean-cut style.  He shoots good basketball too. :D

If Pia steps up her game...she may win.  Casey is so very talented too.  I love his blues/jazz thing.

Last night was the first night that I have been able to watch a complete show. I think Scotty sounds a bit like Josh Turner (Long Black Train).  I'm not crazy about Naima. I don't know about the guy with the high voice.. didn't care for him that much either.

I was set for Stefano or Thia to go, but Casey?   :o  I thought he was going to pass out when the save came.   Mercy, I hope he gets it together next week.

Wow!  I sure didn't expect to see Casey Abrams voted out. :-\

So glad the judges decided to keep him in.  All I can figure out...is that Casey sang first last night and was not up to his usual standards. He was better than some though.  I think the the first singers tend to be forgotten unless they give very strong performances.

Another reason...a lot of voters may have thought Casey was safe and voted for one of the underdogs....like Thia or Stefano.

Anyway...all eleven will go on tour and get a lot of exposure this summer....so the voting won't matter much until the last ones standing.

'American Idol' Elimination Results: Karen Rodriguez Takes Her Final Bow

I really dislike these shows when the best talent is not given a chance to win. Karen is/was the best of all these singers...but she wasn't popular enough...it seems.

Really sad, because she has so much ability in her voice.

Oh wait...XBama, I read it wrong...I'm such a dummy. ???

Those are dialdol scores, not votes.

Dialdol has been pretty accurate about the top people for the past few years. It's harder to peg the bottom ones because the numbers are closer together.  They have some of the bottom ones wrong from last night's voting.

I was shocked when Casey was voted off!  And I am glad the judges saved him and that 11 are going on the tour.  This means the tour will have 6 guys and 5 gals, a much better mix than last years' 6 guys and 4 gals.  We had already decided that the only ones the judges would use the "save" on were Casey, James, Pia and Scotty.  Now that issue has been put to rest!

I like Casey and think he might be in the top 5.  How in the world do Stefano and Paul keep hanging on?  I wonder if "Vote for the Worst" is online this year and who they picked last night.  They became a real problem last year and influenced the vote.

The hubbie and I both vote, and numerous times!   Using our cell phones we just dial for awhile and have had no trouble getting through on the candidates this year.  I voted for Thia and James last night - Thia because I though as #2 singer she would get lost in the crowd and James just because I really like the guy.  Never occurred to me to vote to save Casey.

I swear the early spots are the kiss of death.  Maybe they'll give Paul the #1 spot next week

that's alright CP ... I remember Ryan saying how many millions voted before

I still can't believe Casey lost ... but he got the save so it's good
next week should be interesting  :P

we all need to remember to vote , Ive been voting online and it's really easy ...
easier for me than the att text deal or dialing is
and you can vote for multiple contestants there too  8)

I forgot to vote last night , but James and Pia would of got mine
if I would have thought to vote for Casey I don't know  :-[

was it just me ? or did Stevie forget the words tonight ?   :o

I was really surprised Casey was voted off because I really thought he was in the top 5. He was handicapped by being in the #1 slot on Wednesday. Viewership at that time is 20-25% less than later in the show so it's tough to overcome. I do think Casey needs to either lose the beard entirely or at least trim it short.  IMHO.

Title: Re: Is anybody watching American Idol this year?

I agree KoKoPuf.  Despite Casey's enormous talent, there is something off-putting about him.  We are used to tattoos and punk-rock looks, but there is something weird about Casey's looks that I can't put my finger on...like a throwback to the coffee house days....before hippies and yippies.  Trying to think of the name.  Googled it....Beatniks!  :D

Agree Kupkake.  As long as the producers let Paul hold a guitar to keep him from dancing around like a little pixie queen, he will stay in the game I think, although he won't get all the "worst" votes.  Just hope he doesn't knock out anyone more deserving at the end. His clothes are horrible and look a lot like Dolly Parton's old friend Porter Wagoner.

But don't you think except for winning the title of American Idol....all the top five are going to get their share of attention for career purposes?

Title: Re: Is anybody watching American Idol this year?

I agree totally, CP.  I think the top five will easily make it even if they are not the "idol".  I wonder if that is part of the job of the producer who is so masterfully guiding them - to see who is really marketable.  I remember one night he had someone to watch one of the performances.  I just can't remember who is was and who he was watching!  (Oh, I miss my mind!)

I have always believed that the teenage girl vote was the most important vote to get the win .
that's mostly because I have two daughters with friends and I have listened to them discuss the
voting process ...

I think that is what cost Adam the win , the pictures of him were released of a compromising kiss
and the votes went down ...

this year I don't know though , Stefano was my pick for the TAG vote but now I think my system is flawed .
I have checked in with my TAG voting insiders and Scotty seems to be the front runner ...
it must be the deep voice ?

I would like to see Paul go home but I fear the "Sanjaya factor" is at work and he'll keep going and going and going (somewhat mixed metaphors there!).  As for the other, Stefano or Haley.

March 30 Idol -

Stefano and Haley redeemed themselves.  Time for Paul and Naima to go home.  The rest did a really nice job, some better than others.  James was wild and fun!  He turned AI into his own show!  Flaming piano and all!  He seems to get stronger each week.  Casey trimmed his hair and beard and did a much better job this week.  Last two notes of his song won a lot of us to his softer side.  Poor guy collapsed in a the hall after last week's "save" and had to have another blood transfusion for his intestinal problems.

And Steven was his usual classic self - some of his comments are so funny!  Told Laura Alaina that if she kept singing like that she'd be able to afford the rest of the dress!  As a 16/17 yr old in a sexy black dress with a floor length train and a short skirt front she just smiled and looked like she wanted a hole to open in the floor!

Idol is sooo much more fun this year!

rocker boy and peaches from Georgia were my favorites tonight ...

hope everyone voted ...

I'm amazed at the talent this year. In years past at this stage, you would have 3 poor performances, 5 average performances and 3 good-very good performances. Now, it is 1-2 average performances and 8-9 very good performances.

I think the top 5 will be Scotty, James, Pia, Casey, and either Lauren or Haley, probably Lauren.

Leaving tonight will be Stefano, Naima or Paul.

Title: Re: Is anybody watching American Idol this year?
Post by: Crimson Phoenix on March 31, 2011, 10:52:13 AM
I don't have much to add after reading KoKoPuf's good assessment.

Only other thoughts:  Paul should be going out in the near future....but it is possible he may hang in a while longer because of "Vote for the Worst."

I think Scotty will win the whole thing.

If Pia doesn't upgrade some, she may not be in the top three.  Her voice is beautiful, but she sings the same old way every time and doesn't have the stage presence a few of the others do.

A negative critique from me this morning. :-\

Scotty McCreery and Casy were the only contestants who still seemed natural to me.    There was too much glitz and phoniness about the rest (and the whole show).

I just think the producers are doing too much.  They are coaching the talent of the contestants …but the props are stronger than the talent in most cases.

James Durbin was over his head (and level of talent) with the dress and stage tricks.  It was a turn-off for me.  Paul looked like a carnival clown, and the younger girls wobbled across the stage in five-inch heels with costumes that looked like they were playing dress-up in mommy’s clothes.  But 55 million people voted, so a few people do like the New American Idol show. :-*

Title: Re: Is anybody watching American Idol this year?
Post by: Kupkake on April 01, 2011, 10:58:59 AM
CP - I agree with you.  I think the Idol has been over-produced too.  Sometimes the background(?) music seems to just drown out the singers, some of the background scenes overwhelm the singer and (are those 5 inch heels?) the shoes are just waaay too much.  I don't see how they move in them, let alone dance.  I think they can tone it all down and get an even better effect.  I think Kokopuf may have commented on the music early in this thread.  I know I heard it from him!

It's that time of the week again - competition night!  They all did really well - not a lousy performance among them.  My favs - as usual, James - my gosh he did a slow song that moved him to tears.  There is something fragile about that great big guy that I just love.  But how to weed them out?  I don't care for Paul - and he had the pimp spot - but he did much better than other weeks.  If you guys missed Pia, you really missed a treat - great song and gorgeous as usual.   Scotty is leading the pack according to dialidol - by a mile.
All in all a really fun 90 minutes!

Pia, Scotty & James were my favorites last night. All the contestants were good and I even enjoyed Paul's "Folsom Prison Blues". But, he's no Johnny Cash! I think Paul, Jacob, Stefano or maybe Lauren will be the bottom 3 with Stefano going home.

Title: Re: Is anybody watching American Idol this year?
Post by: Crimson Phoenix on April 07, 2011, 06:39:34 PM
I didn't think it appropriate for a dancing pixie with high voice to be singing the lyrics of Folsom Prison Blues. :-\  The song is meant for a strong man like Johnny Cash.  But I enjoyed the guitars and rhythm.

"I hear the train a comin'
It's rollin' 'round the bend,
And I ain't seen the sunshine,
Since, I don't know when,
I'm stuck in Folsom Prison,
And time keeps draggin' on,
But that train keeps a-rollin',
On down to San Antone.

When I was just a baby,
My Mama told me, "Son,
Always be a good boy,
Don't ever play with guns,"
But I shot a man in Reno,
Just to watch him die,
When I hear that whistle blowin',
I hang my head and cry."

My favorites are still Scotty, James, Casey and Pia.  It seems that Scotty is running away from the pack.

I have no idea who will be going home.  From what I have read... Stefano, Paul, Lauren, Jacob are in the bottom four.  To me, Stefano seems the weakest...with hardly any personality.

OH MY GOSH!!! Pia was sent home!  Best voice of the three women, drop dead gorgeous, and a phenomenal performance last night.  FIVE women have been sent home now and NO guys.  And we still are left with Paul (weird voice, chicken dance) and Stefano ( not much voice, personality of wallpaper paste).  Why is no one voting for the women? >:(

The judges were all in shock and, I'm sure, wished they had another "save".  The audience voiced their disapproval with long and loud booing.

Idol is rapidly diluting its popularity by sending its best women home and keeping not so good guys around.  I hate "vote for the worst" site.   They are making a mockery of this show.

Ssmithhh, I'm almost as upset about Pia as I was about Siobhan.  And I am really upset about Pia. :'(

Major disappointment that Pia was sent home. Best voice of all the contestants and great looking. No way that James, Paul & Stefano are still in the competition and Pia is gone. One theory that no one, other than yours truly, has advanced is that a hacker, or hackers, hacked into the results and manipulated them. Whatever, I think AI would be well served to announce and conduct an audit of the vote to make sure the results are valid. If the public loses confidence in the honesty of the results AI ratings will plummet.

I agree with all you said KoKoPuf.  And I think Idol may be pressured into doing a recount of the votes.

Although I believed Pia to be in the top three....she was not my favorite.  Regardless, I am disgusted enough to stop watching the show.  Something must be wrong with the voting system.  Another factor may be that the judges want to be encouraging and are giving all contestants nearly equal praise.

So it would seem that voters who don't know good music from mediocre are not being influenced or led by the judges, as when Simon Cowell was on the panel.

By the way, I watched the Piers Morgan show one night this week with Simon Cowell as a guest.  Simon was so botoxed-up he could not even move an eyebrow.  One of the interesting things about him was his facial expressions that always showed his level of frustration.  Maybe the botox will wear off by the time the X-factor comes on.  :D Simon looks years younger too.  Not sure if he has had anything done besides botox and fillers.

I don't think there was anything wrong with the voting. I think people were more concerned at keeping other folks that they forgot to save a vote for Pia. I personally wasn't crazy about Pia but did think she had a strong voice.

Something happened similar to this on Dancing With the Stars. I can't remember the woman's name but she was a Cheetah Girl. She was great. She went home very early in the competition - because people ASSUMED that she would be safe and didn't vote for her.

just my $.02 worth :)

Until AI limits the # of votes per phone line, text etc., this will continue to happen.  I got disgusted the year Daughtry was voted out and haven't watched since. There was so much talk about the talent this year I decided to try it again and nothing has changed. There is a lot of talent but Pia should not have left this early.

I think we are all taking it harder than Pia....hope this makes you all feel better.  I feel better. ;)

American Idol's Pia Toscano: "I Want to Do Movies"
"I see an album in my future… pop with an R&B influence," adds the New York-native, who was voted off Thursday. "So many good things are coming from the experience," she says. "Right now I want to be ready for the tour." "Everything happens for a reason."

And Pia has Tom Hanks behind her....so if she wants to be in movies, she probably won't have a problem being introduced to the right people.

After last week with Pia.....who knows who will be voted off tonight.  :-\

My thoughts (rumblings to myself mostly). ;)

Lauren Alaina had the poorest performance.

Paul was clown-like as usual, but he wasn't forgettable like Lauren.

Stefano sang with too much intensity.

Jacob Lusk too.  Jacob can't help having a huge mouth, but I think it hurts him with close-up shots because he is so dramatic.

Scotty seemed a little cocky last night....not his usual modest self.

I love jazz...and was glad that Casey stuck to his real music preferences, but jazz isn't very popular in the U.S. and it could hurt him with voters.

I was also impressed that James Durbin stuck to his guns.  Of course, the coach (Jimmy Lovine) was probably right with his suggestions about what Casey and James should sing to stay in the game longer.

***I had a negative reaction to Judge Jennifer's use of a swear word.  American Idol is a family show.  In a way, what she said took away from her beauty.

Hey, CP! I thought last night's show wasn't quite as good as the past two weeks but it may be I'm disillusioned about last week's vote. I thought James, Scotty and Lauren were the best last night. Haley was a little weak but she looks good so I hope she stays awhile. I donn't really like jazz so I was not impressed with Casey's performance.  My prediction: Paul, Stefano and Casey in the bottom 3 with Stefano going home.

KoKoPuf…

I agree with you about last night not being as good, and I have the same jaded feelings as you do after last week.

O.K..... I think the bottom three will be Lauren, Stefano, and Casey or Paul.  I cannot even imagine which one will be voted off.  Your predictions sound good.

How does KupKake see it?

I wasn't as fired up about watching last night as in previous weeks.  I don't think it had anything to do with Pia going home because, although I though she was beautiful and had a beautiful voice, I always thought she was too beauty "pageanty" and didn't relate to her songs - and I never voted for her.  But something was definitely different last night and I just can't figure what it was.  I loved James ( and I hate heavy metal but he made me enjoy it) and I understood what Casey was trying to do and I liked it.  I don't have a problem with the singers telling Jimmy Lovine that that's not them and not what they want to do.  I think some of them would rather be true to themselves and leave than do whatever Jimmy says and stay.  And that seems to be the mark of a true artist.

I think this whole hinky thing with the voting is getting to me.  I am not even going to wager who will go home this week.  I've been trying to get rid of Paul for weeks so it's clear I have no impact on that!

I voted for James, Casey and Haley.  I do think we need the second girl there longer.  Hey, a bunch of these guys just ain't all that great!

American Idol watchers....I think this is a good article from Entertainment Weekly.  It's mostly about the current judges lack of judging.

Well hush m' mouth! :-X  Paul McDonald was voted off American Idol.  #+ Not one of the judges looked disappointed! :D None of the remaining 7 looked so either.  Lauren cried a little but she cries over everyone that leaves.

Go to vote for the worst.com and vote for Haley to be the worst.  If she receives the VFTW votes maybe we can keep her around longer.  It really is time for Stefano to go next.

Haley and Casey's duet was hot!   Guess that chemistry they have going is a good thing!  And she looked gorgeous.  She definitely has a better figure than Lauren and what LEGS  I am sooo jealous - but I am going to keep voting to keep her on.    :D

I knew you would be happy about that KupKake. ;D

That last suit he wore probably did him in with the young girls....especially when Randy mentioned that it was SO like Porter Wagoner.

Well, CP,  we know most of the young girls have no idea who Porter Wagoner is!  It would be interesting to know who they think he is.  The ones in the south may but you know no younguns from NY have a clue! I thought the suit looked just like the white one except in black!  You wonder where he came up with those things! :D

I was really teasing about the young girls and Porter Wagoner. ;D  I would think hardly ANYONE remembers him.  I think Paul just looked especially ridiculous this past week....and his singing wasn't much better.  "Vote for the Worst" did not save him.

I remember Dolly Parton being on television a long time ago with the Porter Wagoner band and will never forget his colorful clothes.  If I'm not mistaken, that is Dolly stepping away in the background of the video before Porter starts singing..  She had short hair then.

CP -

I must admit even my memory of Porter Wagoner is pretty dim.  I had a Yankee mother and she hated country music so we didn't have a lot of it around our house.  And I really didn't remember that he wore fancy outfits.  Do you have any idea how Paul's outfits look so much like Porter's?  I haven't seen any story about it..

You have a better memory than I do! ;D

They are called "Nudie suits" and have been around for a long time. Hank Williams, Elvis, Little Jimmy Dickens, Lash Larue and Gram Parsons are just a few who have sported Nudie suits over the years.

I thought last night's show was good. Scotty picked a terrible song and seems to be "playing not to lose" instead of "playing to win". Still probably the leader though. I think James and Casey were the best last night closely followed by Haley. My projected bottom 3 - Stefano, Jacob, & Haley.

I agree with your assessment.  Scotty seems to be getting a little over confident.

To add:  I thought some of the language used by one of the judges was over the top for a family show.  It was bleeped out for TV viewers, but not the audience.

I'm not liking this show so much anymore.  Don't know all the reasons...but I think most of the singers sounded much better when they had shaggy hair and street clothes and surprised me.

Now they are all dressed up as STARS but really don't present themselves or sound so much like stars (yet).

I thought David Cook sounded just average last night.  I see that what the great entertainers are saying is true.  These American Idol winners have not worked themselves up from the club levels of initiation and training they need.  But they do it in reverse.  Most of the the winners (exception Carrie Underwood, etc.) seem to go back to ground level and work in clubs afterwards.  They have a little name recognition from American Idol to keep going. I read where Taylor Hicks is starting a restaurant in the Birmingham area with a stage for himself.  ;)

My fav, james, was sent home tonight.  I feel like I felt when they sent Siobhan home last year.  He fought his way thru so many obstacles as a child.  He was diagnosed with tourettes syndrome and high-functioning autism. He has been the most daring and entertaining contestant on AI and now he's sent home.  Life isn't fair :'(

Last night's show was very sad. I was hoping Haley would go. James will have a career - no doubt about it. Made me cry last night when he was crying :(
I want Scotty to win.

America doesn't rock!  I was sad to see James go.  Thought for sure he'd be in the top two :'(

I hated to see James go, thought he was the best "performer" of this year's Idol contestants. I do like Scotty, I think he is better than most of the current crop of male Country singers and he will have a big career in country music. Not wild about Lauren, I just have never seen the appeal. She is good, and young, and will also probably have a good career in country music. I do like Haley. I think she has a better voice than Lauren and she is really good looking! And she has had to take much more criticism than the others. Inconsistent? Yeah, but she has had the best performance in each of the last two weeks.

Haley won the night last night.  Loved the wind machine!  Hope she makes it into the top two, but who knows?  I've sure quite expecting anything that I expected on AI!  Scotty is a shoo-in.  It didn't matter how he sang last night.  At least next week all my old favs will be back for the finale - James, Casey, and Pia!  I can't wait to see James- I missed him this week  :(

I'm pulling for a Haley vs Scotty final! I've never understood the love the judges have for Lauren, I don't think she has the voice or stage presence of Haley. Haley's "Rhiannon" with the wind machine was great just for the visuals alone.

I've stopped trying to guess the voting results.. ???
But one more guess: I think the winner will be Scotty with Haley not far behind...

I'm not appreciating these new Idol judges very much...especially Stephen Tyler who says mostly nothing worthwhile.

Looking forward to the X-Factor in the Fall.  :D  I like it that Simon chose Paula to be with him on the judge's panel.

Well, Haley went home leaving us with a "Hee Haw" final.  I like Scotty and thought a final with Scotty & James, or Scotty & Haley, would have been very interesting with the different music styles and all. When Ryan announced there had been 95 million votes, I figured it was bad news for Haley. When AI showed Scotty's trip home with the screaming, crying pre-teens and younger teens like he was Elvis, I knew where those 95M votes came from.

What a pitiful finale after a season of great talent.  Time to change the voting or just change to another show.  I don't care who wins now.  I just want to see the results show on Wednesday so I can see the really interesting talent.

Some well known web sites say that Scotty got twice the number of votes as Lauren.

We'll see tonight.  ;D   It looks like the finale has come down to two young, clean-cut, seemingly normal kids who happen to be country singers from small towns.  I'm proud of American Idol voters.  Their values could be worse.

I saw the reports that Scotty won big. Probably right, he has been ahead all season. I like him lots more than Lauren and I think he will have a great career in country music.

This is Scotty's first record for the public.  Some of us heard it during the last show.  I think he has a big future ahead too.  It's hard to believe this voice belongs to a 17 year old.
