Title: Game notes: Bama open Post by: hscoach on October 06, 2012, 04:27:58 PM Offense:
The OL has got to do a better job, especially early in the game. If you are the best OL in the country, then prove it. They have to get the ball downfield to take the safeties out of the box or close to the LOS. Rec have got to make plays downfield and create an opportunity to throw the ball when the QB is scrambling. Defense: The D can't keep missing tackles. They have to play better assignment football. They have allowed opponents to get outside too often. Finally, Bama is getting ready to play some quailty competition. It will be time to put up or shut up. They can't afford to miss tackles or break down in assignment which could lead to TD's. If you want to be number 1 then play like you are number 1. HTH We will know where they stand 2 weeks from today. They play at LSU Saturday and then Florida. This does not look like the SC teams of old to me. When you don't have to worry about having a 50/50 chance that your starting QB is going to show up for the game with a hangover it helps tremendously with consistency. These guys look more like the 90's Florida teams we used to meet in Atlanta every year. It is a different style of play, but the toughness is there. They may slip up somewhere but they have a good team. It is amazing how well they've done since they gave Garcia the boot and turned it over to Conner Shaw. Take off your alternator glasses and pay attention. Title: Re: Game notes: Bama open Post by: BAMAWV on October 07, 2012, 11:47:22 AM I will be the first to say Jody22 has to be happy. Georgia is about like Michigan. :dunno: I'm not sold on them 100%, I'm just noting this appears to be a different SC team then what we've seen in the past. They were probably looking ahead to Georgia last week. We will know a lot more about them in 2 weeks for sure. Title: Re: Game notes: Bama open Post by: pmull on October 07, 2012, 12:35:32 PM I agree with HSC that we have things we need to improve on. Specifically the OL and running game. I hope the coaching staff was able to use the bye week to fix a few things and get us ready for 7 straight weeks of football. I don't see anyone beating us as long as we don't beat ourselves. We also need to stay healthy. We don't need to lose any more key players.
As for USCe goes I still don't know how good they are. I was impressed last night against UGA. Again I don't know how good UGA is either. The old ball coach can get his team up to play big games on occasion. His USCe teams can fall flat on their face at times too. Down by 17 to Kentucky and Vandy should have beat them. They look like the best in the east but I expect them to lose 1 or 2 games. Florida and LSU will test them. Two weeks from now, we will know more about USCe than about Bama. Missouri and Tennessee are not tests of greatness, just ones we can't fail. But Bama's five week stretch, ending with MSU, LSU and Texas AM, will tell us what we need to know. Hopefully, also, five more weeks of improvement. Title: Re: Game notes: Bama open Post by: ricky023 on October 07, 2012, 03:52:25 PM I think USCe will beat LSU but the Florida game will be a good one. If it turns out to be a USCe win then they will on the East just like Florida did back in the early days. RTR!
Title: Re: Game notes: Bama open Post by: Jamos on October 07, 2012, 05:07:45 PM From what I was told last Tuesday night, last week was the week for the basic fundamentals. CNS chose the middle of the season rather than the week before LSU for the open week for this purpose.

Glad I could help make your day. Title: Re: Game notes: Bama open Post by: hscoach on October 07, 2012, 09:50:15 PM I wonder with the meat of the schedule coming up if there will be more freedom to check out of some of those bad plays. I say this because sometimes the D lines up and take away what is called and I haven't really seen Bama check out of those plays. I really think the running game will be fine if the OL will sustain their block and work the combo block better. It is hard to tell by watching tv, but some of it could be as simple as footwork or communication.

I want to blame a lot of Bama's poor showing the past two games on mental fatigue. I think the players know how to block and tackle but when the brain has been stretched to it's limit by CNS and his complex system since early August, poor play is usually the result at some point in time. I can't take out the fact fact of some key injuries, which is forcing some of the players to assume another playing position, which creates a lot of mental mistakes as well. There are some players that most of us are wondering why they aren't playing more, well CNS still has his doghouse and there are a few in it. There are some that just don't like to go to class and do their classroom studies. |
