Yep, and I think it is a good idea. If Auburn is really smart, they will extend his contract for anothes 3-7 years to give him more time to get his young assistants familiar with his program. It should do wonders for their recruiting as well. :clap:

I predict he resigns on 11/18.

After the barn loses to Alabama A & M by 21 points on 11/17 a meeting is called for Sunday morning and Chizik announces he will resign (he is fired but they let him take the high road) after the Alabama game.

After the beat down Alabama gives them a week later Jay Jacobs resigns (fired). The locks to the football facility are changed and a restaining order is issued to keep Pat Dye 500 feet away from campus.

You make a good point about fired vs resigned.  For the purposes of this contest, we won't make a distinction.  The date is the only criteria that matters for winning the contest.

Didn't they let tubbs resign and keep his buyout?  I can't remember.  It seems like they told him that if he would resign they would still give him the buyout.

You are correct. They fire you on Sunday morning after the big loss. You work on the buyout settlement for several days and part of the settlement is giving the coach a little dignity and call it a resignation.

This brings up another point: the day of record.  Is suppose we will just have to go with the effective date they claim in the press release, even though it probably really happened a couple of days earlier.

So now I guess my Sunday morning date is going to be wrong.  >:(

I think all of you are way off on your projections. I think Chizik has the Aubs super-prepared for Alabama and only lose 27-0, creating a huge sigh of relief from the Aubs and it results in a 5 year extension for Chiz and a huge pay increase by not losing so bad. They will claim their D shut the Tide down and now they are ready for 2013.

He may not get fired at all. At the gym last night a barner told me they are the best 1-4 team in the country. After I had a good laugh he told me they were only a few plays away from being 5-0. LOL

Of course they are only 1 play away from being 0-5.  The truth is the stars aligned for them the day they got their 1 victory and they should have lost that game too.

Callers to Finebaum make the same point. One even said that except for a couple of plays last year, Auburn would have beaten Alabama. Finebaum was incredulous.

They will have to do that over Pat Dye's dead body.  He recently said emphatically that there was no way that Petrino was going to be hired at Auburn.

If they do hire him, then the question becomes can he get the program turned around before he wrecks his motorcycle the next time.  Arkansas took a chance on him, and look how that worked out for him.  He brings them all the way to the edge of the promised land and then leaves them wandering in the dessert.

Of course the Auburn gang could give ol' Bobby a few pointers on how to cheat and not get caught.  With his talent and their ability to hire the best players money can buy, they may be a force to reckon with if they can stay one step ahead of the NCAA (and his wife).

I don't think they will fire him at this time at all. The buyout he has is so big I don't think they can afford to buy him out. If the Athletic Director quits they are going to need a lot of money to hire a real one. Then he can fire Chizik after he does a couple more years of bad football. I hope he stays and his OC and the DC. They are the best coaches we have on auburns' team. RTR!

I think Chiz has walked the barn sideline for the last time. I think they drop the hammer this week after the aTm beatdown.

This one wasn't any more embarrassing than the others. A&M was ranked at least, and they did score 21. As I said before, with the season a complete and total loss, and the folks you might recruit still coaching, there is no reason not to let Chizik lay in the soiled bed that is Auburn football until the last whistle. I say no change until after the Iron Bowl.

The first question is who would want the job at Auburn if you look at the past history of their coaches that are now gone. I'm sure that any prospective coach would have to look very hard at why some of their past coaches aren't there any more.

The head coach always gets the blame for his teams performance as does the quarterback. In my opinion, the biggest mistake that Cheezedip has made is keeping a couple of his assistant coaches on the team. There are a couple of them that has destroyed this team on and off the playing field and I think we all know who they are. When you look at all great leaders, you will find that they surround themselves with very knowledgeable people and I think this is where the problem lies at Auburn.

Also, I wonder who is in control of the hiring of the assistants down there, is it Cheezedip or all of the others with the money that want to run the program. :dunno:

Chiz has lost the team and the fan support. He has no clue how to get this piece of sh** program turned around. The reason he has not been fired IMO is there is no one to fire him. The President and AD are too worried about their own jobs. I expect a house cleaning at season's end that is long over due.

I did not like Tommy Tuberville but he was man enough to not let Pat Dye, Lowder, Yellow Fella and others interfer with his program.

Finebaum had a chat today on al.com.  Somebody asked him when Jay Jacobs and Chizik were going to be fired.  He indicated that he thought it will be soon.  I looked for a link to the chat transcript on their website, but it doesn't look like they have it up yet.

I think they wait until the SEC Championship game is done.

There is a lot of talk on the barn message boards this week that Chiz and JJ may be back next year. The barners are not happy about the possibility of them coming back. I can not see any way Chiz keeps his job but nothing the cow college does surprises me anymore.

One other tidbit I picked up lurking on their sites. They did not sell out any of their seven home games this year.

Well I believe Pat Dye wants him to be there until after the Iron Bowl, where we should really whip them good. Saying all this, I want us to get by Western Carolina first. Sometimes these least of schools really gives us fits. Remember last year and Ga. Southern. RTR!

I think he will be fired tomorrow if not tonight. They showed no guts or will in the game. They suck, but show some fight against us.

It is D-Day for Chizik.  He made it to midnight, which is a small miracle after their performance on the field today.

Surely the decision to fire Chiz has been made. It may take a few days to get the agents and attorneys together to agree on the terms of the buyout. Once it is decided Chiz and the barn will announce Chiz felt it best for the barn program if he resign. Just like Tubs did even though everyone knew he was fired.

Will the AD be shown the door as well?
