Title: Fanning Apologizes

This kind of response would not happen at the Barn.  Just another way they are not like Bama.

Just costing the Tide penalty yardage should have been punishment enough. He has to know CNS takes that serious. But for him to use the photo as his avatar shows that 24 hours later it still hadn't dawned on him. One of the older guys needs to mentor him.

I only wonder if he was ever a wrestler in high school or has been involved in some MMA activity. That is a tough wrestling maneuver to execute and he sure looked like he had done it before. :dunno:

So, I guess the two retribution plays ( 1. knocking a playert down after the paly is out of bounds. 2. Ripping a players helmet off.) are perfectly fine, and deserve no penalties. Just like when the Missery player tried to flip Dien Belue by using Deion's face mask? I guess the ref's were all like " Poor little Mizzou having to face Big Bad Bama, Lets give them a little breake when ever we can." If Slive and the SEC admin wanna review some one maybe it should be this da#@ officiating crew.

Fanning is a young guy who comes into the game and plays agressive and tries to make a big impact. I get that. But it does not excuse the body slam of the Missouri player. Nick Fairly played like that at the barn and we thought he should be suspended for a game. The 15 yd penalty was a correct call IMO. CNS making him apologize to the Missouri player was the right thing to do.

I want Alabama to be known as agressive, rough, hard hitting and play physical football that will make your opponent sore for the entire next week. But I do not want them to be known for cheap shots and playing dirty. Play hard but play with class.

I agree with everything you guys have said.  I'm not ready to characterize him as another Nick Fairley though because I think he just got caught up in the moment and his intent was only to make a big tackle and not to injure the ball carrier...unlike most any of Fairley's hits which always appeared to be made with a malicious intent to injure and were encouraged and celebrated by the Barn coaching staff...

...Besides, I think I remember a rookie Alabama linebacker making a similar tackle in one of his first pre-season pro games and we were all posting clips of it and talking about how awesome it was...I'm not sure but I think he was penalized and fined for that tackle.

For now I think we should just accept his apology and reserve judgement of his character for later...

I agree with you Leroy. Fanning was trying to make a big play and get the coaches attention in an attempt to get more playing time. Our coaches are making a point they do not teach or want that style of play.

I'm proud our coaches made that point too  ;)

Wholeheartedly agree, sir.
