Many posters enjoy convenience, and all the articles and notices suck... I'm sure all of the things that are not going well are Smithh Generals ideas, but hey.... that's what happens when you hire dumb*****.  

What notices are you talking about?  Did you check the box to be notified of replies or new posts to a board?

Talking about the articles when you first log on and the e-cred "hall of fame" to the left.  Just a bit much.

You can close any of the sidebars by clicking on the circle.  I have almost all of them closed, just because it's easier for me to read.

The easy solution to skipping the articles is to bookmark the Main index page.

You know you can click that little red circle and close any of those side bars you don't like, right?  It remembers your setting too.

Sorry... great forum and great people here.  I just can't stand the fact that smithh General is here.... I know one or two  like him, but what a freaking waste of space.  Having him as a mod has probably cost you 30 to 40 members.... Choose better people to surround yourself with and you will be successful.  He is a cancer and always will be.    

Did he ban you before over at the old place?

He made racist comments about the fact that my daughter was dating a black guy.  He went WAY over board. This was before he was a mod, but how can you respect someone like him?  That was when he thought he was an internet bad***.  He sucks as a person and judges others on what he has done time and time and time again.  

He is probably one of the reasons you only have 6 or  7 posts a day.  Not many people like him, I'm guessing.

I wasn't aware of that.  He seems like a nice guy now.  I can remember thinking he was an internet tough guy in those early days over on TS, but then when I started reading the forum again last year he seemed like a totally different person.  So I just thought I had him confused with someone else.

In any case, NO ONE will get away with stuff like that here.  He has been very helpful to me over here, and has personally brought in a lot of the good people that you spoke of.

Well jody, I don't know you at all, but let me give you a little friendly word of advice:  If you are only going to participate in sites who only have members you like, I'm afraid you will be the one who is alone.  Just my opinion.

Well, I can't speak to anything that was done in the past.  But I can assure you that everyone will be treated with respect here.  I don't think you will get that deal at many other sites, especially as a fan of a rival school.

I am not going to participate in any attacking, but I will say the comment in 2006 about his daughter dating a black dude was joke, however inappropriate, he knows that and it was long forgotten. He is upset because his thread got merged or moved or something, I dont remember, and then he went on a rant like this and got suspended at TS for public attacks on the moderators.

Here's a vote for the general. You are confusing him with the coonass and pirate, but he's born again into a helpful and friendly fellow. I always enjoy his posts.

You know it's really funny from my point of view, the macro view of all the peeps.  A lot of people see the coonass as the "hey day" of tidesports.  Everyone loved the pirate.  But then that all got retired and I took on a different role.  At that time I was blamed for ruining halftime by "over moderating" it.  Which was basically just not allowing people to bash me.   

Then TS grew back with a new group of folks and Tidal Surge (an awesome moderator IMO) had the pacle running nice and while it may have seemed slower than 2006-2007, the numbers were comparable.  Then it disappears and you should see the PM's I got.  Everything from blaming me for it going down by moderating and by not being coonass and having my fireside chats, some downright hateful stuff much worse than you see here.  But I also got a lot of very kind ones, including SUPERCOACH's request for me to come help him here.

All that said, as part of my recovery, Jody, please let me know what I can do to make it right with you.

Yes it is the first.  I have no idea what happened with him over at TS, but you would think it is well past time to let that go.  Especially if it was a joke that just went bad.  I had to apologize for one of those myself a couple of days ago when I laughed about the illegal immigrants being put on the board at Auburn.

Well general, I think you do an honest and marvelous job. If jody could remember the part about forgiveness they might be better. I would say as a member here we would welcome them anytime and to have a very good discussion at anytime. I will say all those ******** is just a coverup for vulgar words so why use them everybody knows what it means. Just describe without vulgarity what you want to say. I applaud SCs choices and work. I didn't know jody that well from the old place.  But this post seemed so out of character from the jody that I do remember.  Maybe he was just having a bad day.

Thanks SC. I find it so unlike a true Alabama fan to have to use that stuff. Gosh you have built a site here that all the bigtime buyers will be after. I actually like this site better than TS and we know at one time that was the greatest site. I think your members will grow continually. I know when I came there wasn't many but man did it explode when people found out about it. My compliments SC. RTR!

Thanks Ricky.  Jody is a South Carolina fan.  He had to suffer through a lot of attacks from people because he rooted for USCe, but I don't ever remember him posting anything like that on TS.  Of course I missed a lot of the stuff that went on over there.

If he decides to come back maybe he will keep his language clean.  He was really upset last night, but that is no excuse for foul language and personal attacks.

The Jody I remember from TS always seemed like a nice guy, and I was excited to see him sign up here the other day.

If he comes back to participate in a productive way that's great.  But if he doesn't he is only hurting himself in my opinion.  I'm sure the general isn't going to lose any sleep over it.

I remember all those days and events that you seem to be unwilling to forgive and forget. 

As has been alluded to here by the general himself, he was going through a difficult period in that era.  I won't make excuses on his behalf, and I know da#@ well he isn't using that as one.

I have the highest respect for you, but I'm really shocked at the bitterness you still harbor from all those years back.  No, I'm in no way invalidating your hurt and pain by the comments about your daughter.  But people... or any person...can and will make unwitting comments that can be perceived as hurtful.  Even if it's coming across as a joke, it's sometimes not taken that way (being a husband we know Martians and Venutians don't get each other at all!).

I maintain that the membership level here is very high, likely because of ssmith.  And also remember - he was under a mandate from others at TS when he was a mod, so on many occasions, his hands were tied, and what he did was more often than not at the behest of the administrators.

Lastly - ssmith pulverized me into the ground so many times I still have trouble walking.  But that was then...and this was now.  Plus, I know he was having issues then, and I not only don't hold that against him, but I have given him both private and public praise for the courage to persevere and overcome a very dibilitating addiction.

You're a good man.  Remember what's really important in this world and not let little things drag you down.  I learned that not too long ago, so it's not something I'm offering lightly.

Although it took over a month to have a thread like this, I am very sorry that it had to happen. I usually like jody very much and enjoyed the good natured ribbing when the Tide and S.C. played. However, this was going a little too far. I don't know the nature of his complaint with you general (and frankly it is none of my beeswax) but just to jump on you for something that apparently happened several years ago is not necessary. People can change, jody. And if general says it was a jok (however much in bad taste) then I think you should take him at his word. It seems he has stuck out his e-hand; I think you should do the same and have a e-shake. Kudos to you general for taking the high road. #

I remember the day you came on board at TS from your South Carolina forum (gogamecocks) and tangled almost daily with ssmith.  Actually, I was the poster who invited you to Tidesports (while rumors were flying about Steve Spurrier and the Alabama coaching position).

Anyway, ssmith deserved your aggression then… and you were a good warrior.

You stayed a long time, and nearly everyone on the TS forum befriended you even though you were a Gamecock.

So what in the Sam Hill are you doing coming to this Alabama site telling the owner what to do about his moderators, and spewing hateful remarks about ssmith?  Ssmith general is just fine now, and most of us are happy with his moderation on this site.  

I can just imagine what your South Carolina gogamecocks.com site owner would think about one of our Tide fans going over there to preach to him about his poor choice of moderators. :-\

I just have to jump in and defend CRS, General and the rest of our wonderful folks here. I can understand having issues with different people on the internet. I can understand not liking someone. BUT the adult, mature way to handle such instances, is to ignore. Jody, I don't remember you from TS but then I stayed out of threads with insults and arguments going on (yes, it limited my time on the boards severely). Any personal beef with you have with someone should be handled privately. We have a wonderful site here. So far, we've managed to keep everyone happy and everyone is getting along. No doubt that sometime along the way, we'll get some who aren't interested in a mature site.  If you'd like to stay here and participate, we will welcome you. However, personal attacks and insults are not allowed. If your intent is to stir up trouble, then our feelings won't be hurt if you decide that you would rather go elsewhere.
I'm sorry for what happened years ago on TS. This is NOT TS. This is Crimson Red Sports. Again, if you want to come participate, WELCOME!

WOW!  There sure are a ton of visitors viewing this topic.  You guys are welcome to sign up if you want to join a friendly forum where you can discuss all things Alabama without worrying about personal attacks.  This topic is the one and only personal attack on the whole forum, and we've been here for over a month now.  Most other forums I've been on have at least 1 or 2 per hour.  If you're tired of the "I know you are but what am I crowd" come on in here and join us.

So this is where the super sensitive types go when they can't take criticism.

ssmith was awful as a Mod.  He was a hypocrite that allowed certain elements to stay and over moderated to stroke his moderation ego.  It's no coincidence that TS started sinking fast when those two (ssmith and Tidal Merge) were reigning supreme and Rattey was focusing his time and efforts towards other projects.

Now you have this place.  Jody is right, this place is way too clustered and generally lacks as a whole.  Had I not seen a poster such as Jody, who many actually like and respect, getting wrongfully blasted, I would have never taken the time to register.  In general, the layout is frustrating, clustered, and looks like it needs to be scrapped and started from scratch.

Hmmm.... I'm a little confused by this.  I'm not sure what to think about people who go to all of the trouble to sign up just so they can tell us they hate us and they think our site is hideous.  It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.  Why would anyone waste their time doing that?

I think it says a lot about your own ego when you sign up here just to set us straight and tell us all about how you think our site should work.  Just sayin'.

This link was posted on WoolyAl.  It made no sense  for Jody to get run down for providing an opinion of changes he thought would better the site.  I have no intentions of looking around at any threads other than this one. 

I'm providing you with feedback.  If you can't take that, you shouldn't have created this site in the first place.  Just because I don't fall in line and attack anyone who comes up against the all powerful ssmith doesn't mean that I'm trying to take this site down.  There are many people who refuse to post on this site based solely on the presence of ssmith.  He was terrible as a Mod on TS and a lot of people don't want to put up with his same crap on here.

Just because the link was posted over there doesn't mean you had to come sign up just so you can set us straight.  There are many people over there who don't like us, but they aren't beating the door down just so they can come over here and make sure we know it.  They couldn't care less about signing up here.

E-cred is intended to encourage good behavior and discourage bad behavior.  If you think people get upset over post counts being reset, you should see how they feel when they get a few boo's and their e-cred goes down.

AHM21 I would like to say welcome. I hope you have a great time here. We have a good thing going here. It does have some more building to do and it will get there. I'm not one of those people?  I felt the need to personally inform this jolly bunch of ass kissers just how much suck is taking place here.  However, you seem quite upset and thus my E-cred will plummet.  E-cred is a glorified popularity contest that makes you guys no different than a bunch of high schoolers.  

Why does it matter?  I've stated my opinion that this site could use a total overhaul and it has led to you telling me what my intentions are.  Just because I say this site sucks doesn't mean I intend on taking it down.  As far as 'Bama sites go, this site is at the bottom of the ladder.  It can't go much lower.

Absolutely Ricky.  I am always open to suggestions on how to make the site better.  Of course I won't agree with all of them.  And they need to be a little more constructive than throw the site away and start over.

Let's not kid ourselves though.  He did not come here to convince us that our web site is horrible and we should throw it away and start over.  He did not even come here to defend Jody.  He came here for the one and only purpose of bashing the General.

that's true , and a lot of the design of this site was all of our ideas put together
SUPERCOACH took many of our suggestions and incorporated them into what you see here .
he just didn't throw a site up here and say like it or not here it is , use it ...

we all have a stake here , some more than others , either way it was fun building it and
now enjoying it , it is still growing and gaining features as we speak ..
just give it a chance , there is more to it than just a message forum here
it is a community of Alabama fans enjoying each other and helping each other
the one thing that it isn't ... is a bad pacle  ...

By the way, I am still working on building out the recruiting section.  It is a pretty big project, but I think it will be awesome once I get it in place.  It is all custom code and will be much more sophisticated than what you can do by just posting the info in a forum.

If so, you would think he would appreciate a civil site like this place.  We would never do that here, especially if you posted it in good faith and things just didn't happen the way you were expecting them to.

yeah I remember him from TS , I was there for several years , way before Coach Saban was hired
one thing everyone has to remember , Smitty was doing his mod'n like he was told they wanted it done .

I changed my name a few times and mostly just read a lot , post count was not one of my concerns.
but for the life of me I can't remember Smitty being mean to people , nothing out of regular mod'n anyway ...

I've been a mod on a sports site , one that catered to au , UA , ole miss , lsu  and beyond
it can be tough , I don't envy the decisions you have to make sometimes .
maybe me being a mod is the reason I don't try to get to far outside the rules .

regardless , this is a new pacle  and a new time ... I guess I'm not much of a grudge holder

Off-topic but IMO the best thing about this forum is guys like Ricky. Absolute class act. Like I've said many times, I post both places, there more than here, but I enjoy coming over here every once and a while to see what's going on.

I have to agree with the part concerning E-credits.  I have noticed everyday that I have been here that I haven't rated clapping hands "Bravos" #+ with E-credits for my comments and contributions.  I think...not being syrupy sweet  has something to do with it.  Other than that... I guess I'm just not a "popular" type of person on message boards.   I really don't post here to pump up my ego with E-credits though.  It's silly. 

Actually, Jody is a very intelligent and likeable person.  He was one of the most respected posters at Tidesports although he was loyal to his Gamecocks.  But I thought Jody was out of line with the attack on ssmith who is super laid back on this forum.  Ssmith has given posters here no reason to resent him.  The past is the past. 

You could be right about that.  For the record there are many times that I give e-creds without the bravo smiley.  Especially if I have a ton of posts to read I will just silently hit the applause link as I read through and try to get caught up.  Most of the smilies probably come when I am online and see the post in real time.

I want to apologize to anyone who may feel like I am biased in that regard.

Oh, I almost forgot.  Have some e-creds for the constructive feedback.

Well now that I think about this some more, this can't be right.  If it were strictly a popularity contest, you would probably be winning.  Didn't you invite a whole bunch of our current members to come here?

I think you may be underestimating yourself here.  You average about 1 e-cred for every 2 1/2 posts.  That is a pretty good ratio.  I average about 1 e-cred for every 6 posts.  A lot of the people on the Most E-Cred list don't come anywhere close to the e-cred to post ratio you have.  I would say you have a ton of e-cred for someone with around 150 posts.  Don't sell yourself short.

I think this whole episode is probably because he was banned toward the end at TS.  I suspected it was something like that and asked him all the way back on the first page.  That is when he brought up all the old stuff that happened a long time ago.

He came by the other night and deleted his account, so I guess we won't be seeing him around here any more.  lawzoo was here earlier this morning and I'm sure he will keep us up to date on USCe, without all the drama.
