Title: Picking against Bama Post by: SUPERCOACH on October 23, 2012, 03:36:19 PM I have a hard time picking against Bama no matter what the line is. Many of you are the same way. It doesn't seem fair to give an advantage to the folks who don't have a problem picking against Bama when the point spread is really high. So let's vote on it.
Title: Re: Picking against Bama Post by: BAMAWV on October 23, 2012, 03:56:03 PM Hate to think someone would be so petty as to actively root against the Tide scoring just to win a Pick'em contest. Bama 38 - 6 MSU (but I'd still take MSU +24 if cash was involved).

There are usually one or two who do, and I don't like them getting the upper hand. Title: Re: Picking against Bama Post by: BAMAWV on October 23, 2012, 04:20:42 PM Hate to think someone would be so petty as to actively root against the Tide scoring just to win a Pick'em contest. I tried one time and I felt guilty for 24 hrs. and I changed it. RTR!
Title: Re: Picking against Bama Post by: Bamaphile on October 23, 2012, 07:05:54 PM I can't pick against Bama, either. I also don't think I've ever picked Auburn, because I can't bring myself to pick them.
Title: Re: Picking against Bama Post by: Bandit on October 23, 2012, 07:08:08 PM Between last year and this year, I seem to always think they won't cover, but pick them anyways. Funny thing is they usually cover. I've kind of gotten used to picking them as a good luck charm. I say keep it!
Title: Re: Picking against Bama Post by: pmull on October 23, 2012, 07:12:30 PM I voted yes. I will always pick Bama. That may be why I am at the bottom of the standings.
I noticed some of you traders picked the barn to cover the spread last week. I will never pick the barn. Same as picking against Bama is how I see it. Title: Re: Picking against Bama Post by: Catch Prothro on October 23, 2012, 07:14:55 PM My vote would be no, don't include the game. The line is 24.5 points! I might have to take State with that point spread, but I wouldn't be happy about it.

If the spread is 20+ I will typically take the dog. Winning by more than 20 usually requires that the losing team doesn't keep playing through to the end of the game, and the winning team either doesn't put in the reserves, or doesn't come off the gas. Bama, with a ball control offensive style, with nothing to prove by running up a score, and with plenty to gain by giving less experience players take snaps, is a bad bet to cover a huge spread. Of course, as the year wears on, our reserves are getting better and better, and the Viles, apparently didn't keep playing. Or maybe they did? Hard to tell.
This week, it's bama, 28-17 Title: Re: Picking against Bama Post by: BAMAWV on October 24, 2012, 04:29:30 AM My vote would be no, don't include the game. The line is 24.5 points! But another way to look at that is that by picking MSU to beat the spread, you are in affect incentivizing the Tide to play harder. If everyone is on the "heck yeah they'll cover" side, the Tide thinks they have it made and don't bring the A game. But in the real gambling world, the line would just increase and we'd be looking at -27.5 or some such number. We have an advantage in that our lines remain the same as when they open (or SC puts them on the sidebar).Title: Re: Picking against Bama Post by: KoKoPuf on October 24, 2012, 09:19:53 AM I almost always pick Bama. I gave up betting on them long ago because I just couldn't bet against them.
Title: Re: Picking against Bama Post by: Tidewest on October 25, 2012, 08:17:24 AM I vote to put them in mis this week and let Supercoach take Bama, I am only one game behind him in the Pick'em contest. I always want Bama to win but I do not get upset if they do not cover the spread.
Title: Re: Picking against Bama Post by: pmull on October 25, 2012, 08:33:50 AM The game is not in the picks this week. I demand a recount. 8)
