Title: Chiznik Says Freshman QB May Start
Post by: Marshal Dillon on October 29, 2012, 08:48:45 PM
The man is a genius.

Quote
Auburn coach Gene Chizik said freshman Jonathan Wallace is "in strong consideration" to start at quarterback against lowly New Mexico State.

It can't get much worse for the nation's 120th-rated offense.

It could be worse. Maryland has lost four QBs to injury, so now Randy Edsal is reduced to using one of his linebackers as a QB. That should work out well.

Are you and Little CB are becoming Terp fans?

Remember Shula's first year in 2003. Brodie Croyle went down and several others followed. We were down to Brandon Avalos and Spencer Pennington at QB. Even then we were competitive in most games and never gave up. We were never as bad as the barn.

Lol, not hardly, but the funny thing is that I think I know more about what is going on with the Terps than the average Marylander.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Brodie and Avalos both go down, so Spencer has to play the rest of the season. Considering the situation, we did not do that badly.

If Wallace knows enough of the offense to be able to run 4 qtrs worth of plays, then starting him is really a smart move.  The Barn's season is already a disaster and Wallace has moved the team as well as any of their QB's.  So why not give him the experience?  They have a couple of "easy" games coming up.  Good time to give Wallace a shot.  (Well...at least they should be easy games...)

Well, we were 4-9 it was pretty bad. We were competitive in all games though. We played Oklahoma down to the wire and they were No. 1 at the time. That is also the year we lost to Tenn in 5 overtimes. Our QB play was so bad that we beat Southern Miss without completing a pass. We also did not go 0 for the SEC. We beat Miss State.

I don't think Chiz would worry about the redshirt anyway.

It's not like he's going to be coaching at Auburn 4 years from now.   :)

Wait, I thought we were talking about 2004, when Brodie went down against Western Carolina and Avalos went down against Georgia, I think. We finished that year 6-6, with a loss in the Music City Bowl to Minnesota. Did Brodie go down in 2003, too?

I know Brodie went down 2 years in a row, but I don't remember the years.  He had a knee injury early in the year, then the very next season he had another knee injury on the other leg.
