My guess would be that this allows them get a head start talking to coaches who may not be coaching right now or put feelers out to coaches who may currently be coaching. It looks bad when they start talking to other coaches when they haven't fired their coach yet (like the barn fiasco with jetgate while Tuberville was still their coach). Everyone knew he was a lame duck head coach anyway. This allows Kentucky to start looking for a new coach. The teams looking for a new coach looks like it will be a crowded market this year. This gives KY a chance to get a head start.
