Multiple sources told 247Sports.com (subscription link) that Auburn president Jay Gogue has informed some members of the university’s Board of Trustrees he is preparing to possibly fire football coach Gene Chizik

This story broke mid-afternoon yesterday and appears to be losing steam. No one doubts Chiz will be gone at or before the end of the season. The Shawn Watson as coach is what most do not believe.

However, I like this picture of Chiz.

I would love it if they hired Shawn Watson.  I guess Charlie Strong is out of the picture...

I guess the potential coaching list is about to grow to include Brian Kelly, Chip Kelly, Bill Snyder, Bob Stoops, Mike Smith, Jim Harbaugh, Bill Belichik, and for good measure, Vince Lombardi and Amos Alonzo Stagg.

If the story is losing steam, I bet it will start boiling again after the beat down we put on them.

I wonder whats goin through Cheezit's mind knowing he and his staff are going to possibly get fired. Concentrating on the game is gonna be awful hard for him and the players...on another note, they should have kept ole Tubbs. JMO...

I'm sticking with my Dec. 1 prediction.

I'm glad Tubbs is gone, he's not terrible, and I hate his scrawny @**.

On another note, Gottfried has NC State ranked #6 in the nation preseason.  While that might  be high, I'd hate to be playing his team anytime soon.

Unless the Barn sinks to a new low in its last two games, still think there is a 50/50 chance Cheezit agrees to make some changes in his coaching staff (not the OC & DC who just got there) and gets another year.  Can go either way though.

I did see on the TV news where Chiznik had a "plan" to correct things at Auburn. I just can not see how Auburn keeps this guy, though.

I see no way for Chiz to keep his job. The fans want him gone. Ticket sales will suffer and there will be a black cloud over the program the entire off season. The barn needs to do something to give the fan base and players hope. IMO the question is whether they fire AD Jacobs or keep him.

Exactly! Did you see the Auburn stands in the 3rd quarter of the Georgia game? I would say they were at least 1/3 empty, maybe more. That will get the admins attention more than anything else.

Fire Jacobs, make Cheezedip the AD, and give Trooper the HC job. Pretty simple I would say.:dunno:

Chiz to recruits:  We'll be here.

Decent article that raises the question:  What if Chiz is fired?

At this point, it's accurate to say that Gene Chizik and his staff are still very much employed at Auburn and as far as we know, maybe they still will be next year and the year after that. We also know that it's very possible that Chizik will not return next season. The one thing we know for sure is that it's impossible to say with any degree of certainty right now exactly what will happen as Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs and president Jay Gouge have yet to publicly give their final decision on Chizik's future.

"Coach chizik is staying at auburn and next year the class of 2013 will turn it around War eagle!!!!!!" tweeted Johnson on Saturday night following Auburn's 38-0 loss to Georgia

I think this is funny because that's been the excuse the past two years. "We're a young team!" If that class turns it around it'll take another 3 years. :lol2:

Of course he's coming back. The President of Auburn, Pat Dye has already guaranteed it.

First, there is no way Chiz is going to keep his job.

Second, if Chiz keeps his job these recruits are still going to decommitt once they find out bedtime is at 11:00.

I completely agree with the tweeter. I think Chiznik should receive a pay raise and a 5 year extension to prove it.
