Nick Saban and Harland "Peaches" Winston comment on Alabama football's Brent Calloway investigation

TUSCALOOSA -- Brent Calloway was being tugged back-and-forth in a fierce recruiting battle between Alabama and Auburn.

The Russellville linebacker's recruitment first encountered turbulence when he changed his verbal commitment in early January to Auburn on national television. One fan at an Alabama basketball game held a sign that equated Calloway to Benedict Arnold, branding him a traitor.

On Jan. 30, three days before national signing day, Calloway shut down communication with outsiders. He spoke to his guardian, Harland "Peaches" Winston, hoping to find an escape to the thunderous recruiting storm.

"When he got through down there at Alabama he said, 'Dad, I do not want to go home. I do not want to go home, I want to stay,'" Winston said. "He said, 'I don't want to go home because of all this stuff people are gonna be talking.' I called the principal, and I called the superintendent, and I said, 'Would it be all right if we keep Brent out?' They said, 'Fine. OK.'"

I want to feel sorry for these young men that get caught up in all of this recruiting warfare but I think they bring the majority of this stuff on themselves. I don't think Calloway had an issue at all until he switched on NSD, with his parents being surprised the most.

They're young, and they're attracted to the publicity.  Guess they can't see the consequences that await them.

Try this, take the phone off the hook or change your phone number, don't open your Facebook account, and tell everyone, mostly recruiters, to stay the Hades away from you. I bet that would work.

Being discussed on Finebaum now.

Details:

1.  Writer in OP story interviewed.
2.  Explained that Brent felt he was misled by Aubs.
3.  Nothing illegal about Bama's recruiting.
4.  Doesn't think this story will go anywhere.
5.  Finebaum asked if the accusations about Brent's recruiting were out of line; writer said "we hear rumors every day, but this guy took a rumor and ran with it" (paraphrased).
6.  Allegations were baseless.  Really upset Brent and are troubling.

So when do we hear an apology from Lee? Plus, this sounds like bigtime CYA, since lawsuit city is going to be coming because of this rumor. Soon, I bet we hear he has parted ways with Rivals for better oppurtunities.

Couple of details.  Writer interviewed was Aaron Suttles (sorry, just got the name).

Don't expect Lee to apologize.  Anyone who is a low-class jerk like Lee won't likely apologize.

I think this would upset any kid being recruited and his family. First it makes the recruit look dishonest which Brent is not. RTR!
