That, and Danny Sheridan will go on Finebaum with another story about the bagman.

I had read rumors of a lot of the things he mentioned in the article a few weeks ago, but this is the first time I've seen it confirmed by a reliable media outlet.

Pat Forde is usually right. He is no sham. I would put his investigative work up with anyone's. That said, it is aubie and I will believe it when the hammer actually drops.

Will Chizik be the first coach to be fired two years after winning the NC?

Finebaum just said that Chizik is down to merely hours of still being the barn's head coach.

Quote
One of the players whose recruitment is being examined is running back Jovon Robinson, sources said. In September, Yvette Lynch, a former guidance counselor at the Memphis high school Robinson attended, was found to have changed the grades of an Auburn football recruit. She told ESPN that she altered the grades at the request of a fellow teacher.

Lynch, 62, who said she retired as a counselor at Wooddale High School in May to care for her ailing husband and mother, wouldn't specifically identify the teacher who she says instructed her to change Robinson's academic transcript.

But when Lynch was asked whether Wooddale physical education teacher Rhonda Wilkinson instructed her to change Robinson's grades, Lynch smiled and told a reporter, "No comment." Later, when Lynch was asked why she changed Robinson's grades, she said: "You already said her name. Go talk to her."

The NCAA interviewed at least one Auburn assistant football coach and several players on campus this week in a continuing investigation of the signing of former Tigers' running back Jovon Robinson, according to someone familiar with the situation.

Auburn head coach Gene Chizik says he will not comment on reports from Yahoo and Alabama Media Group that the NCAA is investigating the program.

Auburn has not received a formal letter of inquiry from the NCAA.

The investigation is not limited to the recruitment of Robinson, said the person familiar with the situation.

The fact that this story is up on al.com means it is seriously 'out there.'  Any prospective coaching hire will want to know where this is going.  If the Barn can't tell him, then the list of Chiz replacements will get shorter.  So what does Gogue know now??

I could see this turning into a situation where Gogue keeps Chiz for another year while NCAA does their thing, but Trooper & Luper are let go.  Then in a year, this will have played out & Chiz will be gone.  Just a guess on what might happen.

Any 3-star or higher recruit who is seriously considering the Barn is either crazy or has no other decent offers.

I hope they get what they deserve. I believe the NCAA will act quickly, this will not be a long drawn out process. I think the NCAA is pissed about scam and this will be pay back.

I think you are right. The NCAA was deeply embarrassed by their handling of the Cam situation when everyone in the country knew Cam was bought & paid for.

You have to love the Barners. They never accept responsibility, but blame a massive conspiracy involving, Alabama, the SEC, ESPN, local media, state-wide media, national media, the NCAA, the REC, the Girl Scouts, and the Pope. It is absolutely amazing. Plus, these supposed violations are secondary violations, at best per their fans. All of this is done due to Bama's "fear" of Auburn and their success.

Chizik has already been under fire during Auburn's 3-8 season.
University President Jay Gogue has said he'll evaluate the program after the season, which ends on Saturday.
In October, Chizik refused to discuss whether any coaches had been pulled off the recruiting trail.
"I don't have time for all of that," he said at the time.

Specifically, the probe appears to be centered on two assistants, wide receivers coach/assistant head coach Trooper Taylor and running backs coach/recruiting coordinator Curtis Luper, who have reportedly been restricted from their normal recruiting duties amid the allegations. Per the Birmingham News, "at least one Auburn assistant football coach and several players" have been interviewed by the NCAA on campus in the past week, although the school has not received a formal notice of allegations. Asked about rumors that Taylor and Luper had been pulled off the road at an Oct. 30 press conference, Chizik said, "I don't have time for all of that. I've got one direct focus, that is my team and my players. That has nothing to do with us winning."

I think they really believe in a Naive standpoint, that this is nothing more than a elaborate rouge. And that they will deal with this after the season (IB)...once the NZAA gets involved and starts investigating, time will tell if their arrogance pays off. It's just a matter of time, if the allegations come true though...

I could really see this happening where Trooper and Luper are hung out to dry and Chizik becomes Aubie's Shula.

The other take is that Cheeze might have a clause in his contract that releases the farmily from their buyout obligation if Cheeze does something wrong. They can save $5mil that way, and give it to some high profile coach who wants to move his family to Ope Lika and spend the next 5 years getting the tar beat out of him by CNS and the Crimson Tide.

You know, I don't really know what is going on at auburn but I wonder if anybody could show me some real time statements that are in true belief of what they (auburn) have done? It is so easy to blame a rival for anything, but if it is proved they would be a lot more fun, if not we make a fool out of ourselves. scam newton didn't get proved and I kind of felt like a duff, for all the laughter and jokes I made with auburn friends. RTR!

The initial contract says that.  After the Cam situation, BCS and contract renewal, the language was changed for some reason  and apparently Chiz merely agrees to comply with the rules, but it does not appear that the "for cause" clause was retained.  That would be some clever lawyer on Chiz's part, knowing what might be going on under the table and protecting his client from the fall-out.  The Barn administration isn't innocent either, though, or they would have insisted that the language remain.

The high school transcript that the barn sent to the NCAA Clearinghouse was different from the transcript Notre Dame sent in. The barn transcript had at least one grade changed that would make the kid eligible. The NCAA discovered that a high school counselor changed the grade without permission. The counselor has since resigned without pay. The NCAA has been investigating this recruiting issue along with other issues which are unknown at this time. Barn assistant coaches Trooper and Luper are under investigation by the NCAA and not allowed to recruit. The NCAA was in Auburn recently interviewing barn coaches and players as part of the investigation.

None of this looks good for the barn. The two coaches being punished indicate something has been found by the NCAA. This could be a slap on the wrist secondary violation or it could be very serious as most of us have been expecting for several years. The timing of this investigation is bad for the barn. They are trying to hold on to a good recruiting class that most thing will start jumping ship in light of the investigation, potential coaching change and the overall shape of the program.

Thank you so much pmull. I have a better understanding now especially about trooper. I have not known him, but what I read he concerns me all the time. I just don't see auburn coming back for a long time if this turns out to be true. The things in the dark, shall be brought to light and you won't like it when it happens. You're better off to work in the light to start with. RTR!

Finebaum metioned on his show, along with a guest like Brad Edwards or Herbstreit, or someone like that, a couple months ago that Trooper had been at Nebraska for one but was let go after one year, saying they did not need his type of recruiting there.
