Title: Northern Illinois is Orange Bowl bound Post by: pmull on December 02, 2012, 04:04:05 PM Quote Although the official BCS standings will not be released until Sunday evening, Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel is reporting that Northern Illinois will be going to the Orange Bowl to face ACC champion Florida State. This would make Northern Illinois only the fifth school outside of the AQ conferences to qualify for a BCS bowl, and the first from the MAC. The other four schools are Boise State, TCU, Hawaii and Utah . Remarkably, in the 7 BCS bowls those teams have appeared in they have a record of 5-2, and one of those losses was by TCU against Boise State in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl. Northern Illinois is 12-1 on the season and won its second straight MAC title on Friday night, defeating Kent State 44-37 in double overtime. Most projections show Louisville vs Fl State in the Orange. I think Oregon and Florida will be at large picks ahead of Oklahoma. Title: Re: Northern Illinois is Orange Bowl bound Post by: SUPERCOACH on December 02, 2012, 04:18:47 PM This is ridiculous when the SEC runner up is going to be left out.

I hate the bowl rule that only two teams maximum can go to BCS bowls. We have 6 teams in the top 10 all deserving of a BCS bowl. Four get to go to lesser bowls while Northern Illinois, Louisville and Wisconsin go to major bowls. They had the ball with a chance to win but threw an interception. The fact that such deserving teams have to go to inferior bowls while those mentioned above go to the BCS is ludicrous and is just one reason there are problems with the college football postseason. When your two best teams are on probation in a weak conference your # 3 does not deserve the spot. A team that had to get a waiver to even be bowl eligible could have gone to a BCS game. Title: Re: Northern Illinois is Orange Bowl bound Post by: 2Stater on December 02, 2012, 06:58:00 PM As big a travesty as this is, I have to admit that I'm pretty excited about Bama playing for yet another NC. Hate it for UGA and all the others, but stuff happens.
Oh, and Roll Tide! Title: Re: Northern Illinois is Orange Bowl bound Post by: Catch Prothro on December 02, 2012, 07:51:09 PM Northern Illinois going to a BCS Bowl is a joke. Their coach is leaving before the bowl game even, to go to N.C.St.
Title: Re: Northern Illinois is Orange Bowl bound Post by: ALTideUp on December 02, 2012, 08:08:38 PM Congrats to the Big 10 for getting an unbanked 5-loss team into the granddaddy of all bowls. They must be proud.

They must be proud. Well Iowa, with 8 losses, did beat that N.Ill. BCS team, so the conference can't be all bad. :lol:Title: Re: Northern Illinois is Orange Bowl bound Post by: McBaman on December 03, 2012, 12:52:37 PM No Ill may be forced to buy a large number of Orange Bowl tickets. If they can't sell them, the school will take a financial hit. May even loose $$$ on the trip.

If they can't sell them, the school will take a financial hit. May even loose $$$ on the trip. They have to buy 17,500 tickets. The average attendance for their home games is 10,600. They may have to buy some expensive tickets but they can afford it. Each BCS bowl team is expected to get $18M. The team normally deducts all expenses and then turns the rest of the money over to the conference to be distributed. Not only will No Illinois not lose money but the entire conference will get a check like they have never seen before. |
