Title: I don't understand Auburn, but what else is new?
Post by: jtide on December 03, 2012, 11:40:41 PM
Kirby Smart would be a great hire for any team.  But if God was an assistant at Auburn, I still wouldn't want the almighty for our head coach!  Thus, I don't understand Auburn being interested in one of ours, regardless of how good he is or isn't.  I guess from my perspective, it's a pride thing.

I certainly wouldn't want him at Auburn.  :lol2:

Auburn is in such disarray I don't think CKS would want to have to fix all that stuff. RTR!

Auburn is looking at all options. There does not look to be many good current head coaches that are available. KS is one of the top coordinators and deserves a look from anyone needing a new coach. KS has been smart and not jumped for just any job. I think he will stay at Alabama until the right job comes along. But we need to face the fact that KS will not be an Alabama DC forever. All assistants get the head coach fever and the money will be hard to turn down.

Is the barn the right job for KS should it be offered? Hard to say.

Negative: The barn fans do not want a Bama man. The program is in disarray. Disapline, stength/conditioning and attitude has to be changed and that may take time. The barn wants instant results. Will the administration leave the new coach alone and get him full control of the program. The SEC West will be difficult place to rebuilt a program. NCAA probation is likely.

Positive: Whether we like it or not the barn is a decent SEC program. It is a middle of the pack SEC program but is still a top 20 job. They have good facilities. They support a winner.

Why do you have to be so reasonable? LOL :)

If CKS wants to EVER be a candidate to succeed CNS he won't go to the Barn.  But forgetting that, I think he's too smart to go there with all the messes (plural) that are there.

Barn needs to hire a proven head coach who knows how to run a program with a strong hand. But there may be forces within the Barn mess who want a coach they can control. Gary Patterson would be a great hire for them but again, I don't know why CGP would want to take on all the messes.

If Petersen leaves Boise, that might be a good place for CKS to go as his first head coaching job.
