Title: Heisman Trophy
Post by: Catch Prothro on December 08, 2012, 09:41:39 PM
So it's Johnny Manziel.

Did he win, or was it good timing?

congrats to JM
his win at BDS helped him a lot imho ...
and being a great player didn't hurt either

Fun Heisman fact. Only other Texas A&M Heisman is housed at Alabama. John David Crow's family donated it to Bryant Museum. #ironic

I think, without that win at BDS, JM doesn't win the Heisman.

(It was a team win, though JM had a very good game).

I think he deserved it. The entire country saw his talent against us. When C. Klein lost to Baylor, JF came to the forefront.

I have a theory that a bunch of voters thought "Johnny Football" sounded cool and will give them more to write about. Agenda driven voters.

I saw him this morning on Fox&Friends. Great kid. Well spoken. Polite.

I think he deserved it. He put up good stats both running and passing in a conference that plays defense. A&M exceeded all expectations this year. Without Johnny Football they maybe lose 5 games. His Heisman moment came against Alabama when he fumbled the ball and caught it in mid-air then threw across his body to a wide open receiver for a TD.

To win the Heisman you need a good team around you. He will miss his big offensive line next year. He loses several of them and at least two will be playing in the NFL.

^THIS^  Some people talk like, because he is a freshman, his numbers will only go up, and the Aggies might be competing for the SEC title next year.  BUT,  losing two NFL first round caliber O-linemen will definitely change how much time he has, their running game, and I'm not convinced they will be better next year.

his linemen say he is really hard to block for because they
never know where he is at ...

I played with a QB a lot like JM , very elusive and quick.
we won games because of him that we should have lost
the guy was so da#@ hard to get your hands on it was
almost impossible to tackle him ...
I remember guys grabbing air where he was more than him ...

At lease we won't have to hear the announcers repeating "Notre Dame's Heisman-winning linebacker" during the NC game.

Well I think he earned it. No doubt he made up a lot of ground against us, and why not? The best defense in the country and we was always one step behind him. RTR!

That's what the whole Irish team will end up as.  Runner up.

The only thing I didn't like about him was when I saw him do the Cam superman rip off your suit move earlier in the year.  But, I only saw him do that one time.  I think the coaches or somebody took him aside and pointed out he shouldn't be doing that.  Since he only did it once I will let it slide and chalk it up as a freshman learning experience.  I like him.  I hope he gets clobbered by Bama next year.

I think he deserved the Heisman.  Which other player contributed as much to his team as this young man?  I will be interesting to see next year if his 2 OT's go pro.

He earned it.

His acceptance speech was fantastic.  Had all the elements of a good speech - humor, humility, heartfelt gratitude, etc.

Seems the Heisman helps in the girlfriend department:

If AJ comes back next year, I believe he will be one of the front runners. RTR!
