Ouch. First Engstrom out for the season and now Steele will be out six weeks. This will change how we play defense. I don't see how an 8 man rotation can play up tempo full court pressure man defense. I think we will be forced to play more zone. That will help with foul trouble and have energy.

This basketball season is not going the way I had hoped.

For the fourth consecutive season, the fifth-year senior will not play a full season. The senior guard will miss the next four to six weeks because of sports hernia surgery that he had Thursday in Philadelphia.

This comes on top of junior center Carl Engstrom having season-ending knee surgery earlier this week, leaving Alabama with only eight scholarship players.

Maybe CAG should go up to the student rec center and see if we have talent on campus that could walk on.  We don't even have enough players on scholarship to have a second string.

We have a couple of walk ons that could see playing time now. They especially help with practice. It may be time to start checking the seniors on the football team to see who may be able to help around Mid-January. Big Michael Williams would make you think twice before driving into the lane.

That is one thing that could be said about Engstrom. He was on scholarship. Let us pray for speedy and full recoveries for both players. RTR

An 8 man rotation is the standard for college & pro BB. Duke is well known for this type of rotation. Personally, I would prefer a 9 man rotation, but I don't count.

You can play and be successful with an 8 man rotation as long as you do not have foul trouble or injuries.

Put Jesse in there.  He's only been playing football for a few years, so why not take up a new sport?  He'd take up the whole lane.   :D

It seems like I read somewhere that he does play basketball and is pretty good at it.

You heard right. Basketball was actually his best sport growing up.

I like Jesse as much as anyone but I doubt he can run the floor in the SEC at 320 lbs and a bad knee. He needs to help win us a National Championship and get ready for the NFL draft. Jesse will be making big bucks real soon.

You would still have an 8 man rotation, it would just require someone else on the roster to fill one of the 8 spots.

My point is our 9th man is a walk on. Dakota Slaughter appears to be the best of the walk ons and he has played 19 minutes in 8 games. We have no depth .

The player (guard) from Belgium is a walk-on, too, I think.

 :dunno:

Nope, he is one of the eight.

Releford, Cooper, Lacey, Randolph, Jacobs, Pollard, Obasahan & Gueye are the eight scholarship players that are healthy. Steele and Engstrom are out. We only have ten on scholarship.
