Crimson Red Sports

Ok, I got Western KY on this one, like most pickers.  This violates SuperCoach's rule about picking a team which just lost its head coach, but follows the rule about picking the Southern team.  Looking at their season, it seemed that WKY was just a better team, so I'll take my chances with the interim coach.

I didn't think about that they were playing in Detroit, though.

D'oh!

After his pregame speech I was with WKU.

3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, CMU leading 17-14, WKy first down and goal.  Offsides penalty, ball was on the 2 yd line.

Second and goal, ball inside the one now.

Ruling on the field was a TD.  RB loses the ball going over the plane.  Play under review.  It's close, but I think its a TD.

And the call stands (not confirmed).  It was that close.

WKy leads for the first time in the game, 21-17. 

CMU goes for it on 4th and goal.  Called a TD.  CMU rushes out to kick the PAT, WKy calls a timeout, play gets reviewed and REVERSED.  WKy ball on their own 1 foot line.

3 and out.  WKy punting out of the end zone.

Low snap, punt gets BLOCKED!

Ball bounces around, gets knocked around, touched by players from both teams, then CMU recovers around the 25 yard line.

CMU scores a TD, leading 24-21.

Wky drives back down the field, 4th and 2.  Field goal range for the tie, ball on the 18.  51 seconds left in the game.  Wky calls a time out.  They were running the clock.  I'm surprised they didn't try to get CMU to jump offsides.

WKY goes for it on 4th down, terrible pass, the guy was triple covered.  And there was a guy wide open in the flat.  Incomplete pass, CMU ball on the 18 with 49 seconds left.

And CMU takes the victory formation.  Final score CMU 24, WKy 21.

I knew this game was a D'oh as soon as I realized they were playing in Michigan.

Stupid. Should have kicked it.

W. Ky played like a team without a coach. :-[

That's why he's an interim head coach.  Even if they make the first down they still have limited time to get into the end zone.

Their best receiver was triple covered, so the pass to him was was dumb, especially since he drew all the coverage and there was a guy out of the backfield wide open to the same side.  The QB was intending to throw it to the receiver the whole time though, and didn't even look at his open guy.

The score for this game appears to have been incorrectly posted on the
Pick Em contest page, though the result is still correct.

I fixed it.  It was another case of the home/away teams switched from what ESPN has.  Unfortunately I think it would be pretty difficult to switch the home/away team to match ESPN at this point since everyone has already entered their picks.

We are going to have several more of these to look out for.  :(

Next on the menu is SDSU v. Bowling Green game.  Needs fixin.
