Quote
The Alabama men's basketball team will begin a two-game homestand on Saturday when it welcomes Texas A&M to Coleman Coliseum. The contest is set to tipoff at 5 p.m. CT and will be televised on Fox Sports Net.

“We’re excited about the chance to get back on the court,” UA head coach Anthony Grant said. “We’re playing a very talented team in Texas A&M. This will be our first time competing against them being new to the league. I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen on film. [They’re] very talented, very solid team offensively and defensively, so we have to get ready for a very exciting game. We’re looking forward to the challenge.”

Saturday’s game will have a little extra special meaning as it will mark the 2,500th game in program history. The Crimson Tide has an all-time record of 1555-943-1 (.622) as it celebrates 100 years of basketball during the 2012-13 campaign.

The Crimson Tide (10-6, 2-1 SEC) enters the game having won two straight and four of its last five following an impressive 75-43 victory at Mississippi State last Wednesday night. Sophomore forward Nick Jacobs recorded the team’s first double-double of the year with 16 points and 11 rebounds off the bench, while sophomore guard Levi Randolph matched his career high with 18 points to go along with a season-best eight rebounds in the win. Sophomore guards Rodney Cooper (17 points) and Trevor Lacey (11 points) also reached double figures in the victory.

Put 1 guy, maybe Randolph on #31, and let him have his game. Hope we hold him < 20. But make the rest of the Aggies carry the load.

Aggies playing tough on "D". Also getting back, perventing the Tide from running the floor. This 10 min. drought was not so much a shooting drought as usual, but we couldn't even get a shot off for 9-10 min. Aggies 19-6

TAMU not doing anything special offensively. The story of the first half was Bama's 10 min. drought (4 or 5 minites w/o getting a shot off). Lacey has hit a couple of 3's and Jacobs has the other 6 pts. Cooper is 0-3 but everyone else is maybe 0-1. Rebounding is even, the Tide with a slight edge. PFs about even.

TOs edge goes to A&M (10-5) and may be the story.

Changing baskets will help. hopefully their shooting (50%) will drop off and our shooting (27%)will pick up. Lets hope CAG can settle them down and we see some patients offensively by the Tide. Maybe increase to full court pressure to shake up the A&M game plan.
A&M 26-15 (half)  Turner w/9pts.

Aggies by 2-- under 10 minutes. Bama still struggling in their 1/2 court offense.

A&M 41-39. Bama , with the exceptions of a couple of 3s and a couple of put backs by Jacobs, cannot score if A&M is allowed to set their 1/2 court defense.

Turner held to 13. Bama's shooting increased and A&M dropped off after change of baskets. Tide came out pressuring full court and took A&M out of their 1/2 court game.

BAMA 50- Aggies 49 (final)

3 straight SEC wins!

I went to the game with Jamos. The first half looked like we were stuck in molasses. The 2nd half, we picked it up, but still had much trouble with the half court offense. There just isn't much movement from our guys away from the ball and executing the screen is not our strong point. Having said that, I was impressed with aTm. They are quick, good on defense, and shot well, particularly in the first half. It was no small chore for Bama coming away with the win. A win is a win and I hope this is another step in building confidence. Kudos to Trevor Lacey for his effort in the game, and the overall team defensive effort.

The ESPN guy tried to make a real story out of the Releford injury, but I could not tell he missed a beat. He lead the way in scoring in only 31 minutes of play with 5/8 shooting (1/2 in 3s) and was 4/5 at the line. I also think at least one (possibly 2) of his goals was attributed to Lacey. At least the announcer attributed them to Lacey, but IDK about the official scorer. Releford finished with 15 pts-- Lacey had 14 in 37 minutes. Jacobs had 3 turnovers (as did Steele) but was 4/5 in shooting. I'm still hoping for more production from Pollard.

Pollard is a freshman and he has a long way to go to be a star player in the SEC. First, he needs to put on a little weight and get stronger. Second, he needs to work on his outside shooting. He seems to be falling off his shot rather than going straight up and squaring his shoulders. He also makes a lot of silly fouls and that is all mental.

I think Cooper has been disappointing this year, I think he was a better player last year. He has way too many senseless turnovers and they seem to come at crucial times.

Bama won yesterday and in all reality they should have lost, but a win is a win. What amazed me most was their best shooting percentage of the game was their 3 point shooting and their worst was from the free throw line. if they had made a few free throws the game wouldn't have been as close at the end. They are still doing a terrible job with their picks and screens and when they do set up a good screen they don't take the open shot. I think this is just a lack of confidence in their outside shooting abilities and Lacey actually won the game by taking one of those open 15-18 foot shots.

They are a young team but they have a years experince and by now the youth shouldn't be a factor with the team. Kudos to Mousse Gueye yesterday, he showed me some foot speed that I didn't think he had and his presence underneath the basket in the last 10 minutes of the game was a big factor in the win. Who knows, maybe he is starting to get a grasp of the game. RTR!!

This game was about defense. We held A&M to 49 pts. I am not sure how we did it. A&M shot 50% in the first half and only scored 26 pts. They shot 46% in the second half and only scored 23 pts. They turned the ball over 15 times. Both teams took possessions late in the shot clock. Offensively we played awful in the first half but the defense did not allow A&M to build an insurmountable lead.

Releford looked stiff in the first half. I am not sure if the ankle was bothering him or if he was just playing tentative trying to make sure he did not reinjure it. In the second half his ankle either loosened up or he forgot about the injury and play much quicker.

Rebounding was about even. A&M had 27 to our 25. Very few offensive rebounds in the game. We had 6 to A&M 5.

We had a good crowd of 13,741. Too bad it took until the second half to give them something to cheer about. They were very load at times.

We are normally a good free throw shooting team. Not last night. We were 8-15 for 53%. Hitting a few of those free throws would have but A&M away late in the game.

It was ugly but it was a win. We are 3-1 and right in the thick of the SEC race.

We play Kentucky on Tuesday night at home. Kentucky looks beatable to me.

Hate to say this but TAMU laid out a blueprint for beating the Tide. Get back on "D" and set your half court defense. Bama had a couple of 3's and 3-4 2's from Jacobs in their 1/2 court offense. Bama plays best at 90 mph! This is why CAG put in the full court pressure to start the 2nd half-- to break up their game plan on defense. Gueye can at least catch the rebounds that come right to him and throw it to someone else without a TO.
