Title: Players who made an impact to you.
Post by: hscoach on January 29, 2013, 02:39:40 PM
We all know AC made a huge impact and was a major factor on the success of the Tide this year.  Who else do you think, beside the main line players made an impact this year and probably will continue next year?

I guess you mean the freshman class. TJY. Next season will need some early impact performances from the JC transfers. Especially on "OL".

Doesn't have to be a freshman there are some other players who contributed this year.  I was waiting for others to mention players before I submitted mine.

Dee Hart was out again this year with an injury, but I expect him to contribute next year on punt returns.  We really need someone back there that can make plays but also make good decisions.  Jones made a lot of bad choices and took too many risks at times this year.

TJY of course.

AJ should have a big year if the O-line can protect him.

Clinton-Dix also takes too many chances, but I think as he gets more experience CNS will get him out of that.  For example a lot of times he will try to strip the ball out instead of make the tackle.  He got away with it, but I kept expecting the runner to get loose and make a big run.  He also had several plays where he went for the interception when he probably should have made a hit on the receiver to knock the ball loose.  Several other plays he knocked a team mate off a sure interception trying to get it for himself.

DePriest had a pretty solid year I think.  He should start stepping into a leadership role next year.

That is all I can think of at the moment.

I forgot about Fowler.  He should have big year next year too.

Cyrus Kouandjio needs to make big noise at LT. OJ Howard is one of the freshmen class next year that may have a good season, but you can take that list of early enrollees and say that about them all.

Here are some of mine.  I thought # 8 Jeoffrey Fagan came on later in the year and expect more next year.  Also, Geno Smith showed some coverage abiltiy in the NC game.  Denzel Devall #30 kind of reminded me of DH when he lined up at DE, remember he is a freshman.  Also, #47 Xzavier Dickson did the same as DD.  Mavin Shinn #80 played a big role in the NC game, especially can you remember how many catches he had the whole year.  Brian Vogler will need to come in and play TE and block like MW did.  These are a few of my choices.

I think Reggie Ragland may step up at LB. And I am very interested to see Derrick Henry.

On Offense:  I'm looking for Chris Black and Kenyan Drake to contribute next year. We also need a tight end to step up, and I see Brian Vogler filling that role very well.

Brandon Ivory. We need that big run stopper right in the middle. He has big shoes to fill following Jesse, Chapman and Mt. Cody.

Place kicker? Who will replace Shelly? Will it be Cade Foster who has been inconsistant or redshirt freshman Adam Griffith?

Ryan Kelly appears to be the leading candidate for center. You can not have a good OL without a leader at center.

John Fulton CB. He looked outstanding against Johnny Football in the 2nd half of the A&M game. They kept picking on him and he kept making plays. Geno Smith will play a lot as well.

Jeffery Pagan and Reggie Ragland have already been mentioned but I look for them to preform well.

Fowler to H-back leaving a battle for No. 2 RB behind TJY. Who will it be Keynan Drake or Derrick Henry?

Good list.  I like KD.  I mentioned this in some of my game notes.  Also, the Fanning kid at DL could help.  He showed some quickness in the games he got in.

The link below by Tidesports.com has their best guess at next year's two deep depth chart. It is dated 1/15/13 and does not include incoming 2013 signees but it gives you an idea of what to expect.

I thought Kenyon Drake #7 was a big surprise. If he has any help from the O-line he will be breaking big plays.
HaHa to me needs play a big role and my other concern is we need leadership on Defense. I know AJ is on offense so we to fill the defense. RTR!

They don't have a long snapper listed to replace Carson Tinker.  MK Taylor was listed as his backup this year.

If I remember correctly they signed the top deep snapper from California.

Cole Mazza has committed to Bama and expected to sign next week. He is the No. 1 long snapper in this years class. The depth chart does not list members of the 2013 incoming class.

Great story.  He sounds like a great addition.

I found this article on RollBamaRoll.com titled "Opportunity Knocks for Tide Reserves" which fits in nicely to the topic of this thread.

One of the names mentioned is Alec Morris to step up and win the back up QB spot. I think this is a good point. If AJ went down last year I was concerned with Sims being the back up.

I am not sure if AM can beat out recruit Cooper Bateman, I think is his name.

Just guessing but I expect Cooper Bateman to be redshirted. However, he is in school and will go through spring practice.

Here's a quote from the link:

Quote
Morris was always a developmental project but even if Cooper Bateman is the future Morris has a chance to lock down the #2 spot long term which would make him "the guy" in the event of an injury.

Appears Morris is projected as a permanent backup.  CB is one of three QBs in class of 2013, probably the most natural talent.

I still like Sims as a backup, at least for now.  He showed some promise running the wildcat with reserve players, didn't make many mistakes, and adds a new wrinkle.  I don't know if he could do it for a whole game though.
