I do agree that this forum has been dead lately.

I just posted the same thread, so I deleted it. My post was to the point. The same posters continue to act immature and more like a 15 year old. They still haven't grown up. The same childish behavior and posts. If anything, activity on woolyal has slowed down significantly, while we are gaining steam. Punk behavior will drive off good posters.

I think that's to be expected with the end of BB and football season. Not too many things to post which attracts a lot of responses, since most folks respond to BB & fb news.

So am I. If you consider their silly threads as counting for activity, then I guess they're doing okay, but they lost A LOT of posters due to the constant childish behavior on the site.

Yep, it's about as if you're sitting in front of a mirror talking to yourself. I don't mean any disrespect to anyone by saying this, it's just not much conversation between two people going on.

No offense, by me anyway. I think the posters here tend to be a little older and aren't as likey to get into idle chatter or prattle on. I definitely think the other forum has a much younger and vocal clientel, in general. Plus, most here work and have familty committments. Just thinking out loud.

So am I. Their choice of words is a little overbearing for me. I do pop in occasionally just for the football talk but it's tough trying to read through the cursing and vulgarity. It's their choice though and I had another choice with Crimson Red.

Yeah, the language and just overall immature attitude expressed by many over there is a turn off. Like I said, most folks, say 30 or 35 or older just don't want to hear that crap. I'm still hoping folks like broctune, Tidal Surge, capstone33, sportsdame, and many more of the good posters from TS will reappear when football season starts.

There is a stark contrast between the 2 sites.  On their site pretty much anything goes, and over here we try to keep things friendly.  There is nothing wrong with either, and both sites cater to different types of people.  Some people enjoy both sites.  There are certain posters who just aren't interested in a site where anything goes.  Other posters detest any and all rules.  Some people really don't care and enjoy both sites.

I spoke with hscoach the other day.  I know many people over there are asking about him.  He was a little sick over the weekend and out of town, but he is working on an A-Day write up for us.  hscoach is a perfect example of a great poster who just isn't interested in a pacle like that as long as he has other options.  No offense to them, and I apologize if I am speaking on his behalf, but that is just my opinion after speaking with him over the years.  He falls more into the "friendly" category instead of the "no rules" category.

I will say this though about dpa1paco's merge comment over there.  I think he is misinformed or perhaps has us confused with another site.  We rarely merge topics here.  That is just not an accurate statement.  If I'm wrong about that I will apologize to dpa1paco.  Perhaps we had some merges at the very beginning, but I don't think there were that many if any.  But I honestly don't remember.  I do know that a merge is pretty rare these days.

Tidal Surge has an account here, but he has never posted.  I think it was probably more just to reserve his name before some prankster came over here to post under his name and start trouble.  I saw sportsdame online just the other night, but I don't think she has ever posted either.

To be honest I expect it to be pretty slow during the summer months.  That is just the way things work.  I plan to use that time to try and finish the recruiting section and continue to make the site better.  Hopefully by the time two-a-days begin we will have some new things to attract more of the old posters.

The recruiting section is going to be a HUGE draw, unlike anything you've seen on a FREE forum, I can guarantee you that.  :D  It will be the same info of course, but in a much more organized and useful format than what you can get by just posting the info for each recruit in a new forum topic.  It is a big undertaking with lots of custom programming, but I hope to get it finished over the summer.

Building a good site is a marathon, not a sprint.  I look at the statistics every night.  We are growing steadily and have been since the day we started.  Unless you just happen to get your site up and running right before a site with 30,000 members announces they are shutting down, it will take some time to get established.  The important thing is not how many posts you have in a day, but how many NEW people visit your site every day.  I can assure you we are doing very well in that category.

There are a ton of people who read the site but don't post.  I heard from one of the mods today that our views to posts ratio is something like 5 to 1.  I've been told that it was something around 2 to 1 on TS.  So don't think of it as talking to yourself in a mirror, think of it as standing on stage in front of bright lights and talking to an audience that you can't see very well.

I see no reason to fuss back and forth. I think this site welcomes anyone who wants to discuss something clean and not a bunch of vulgar "F" words or such. I have been on several forums and I think this is the best. I hate to say it, it is better than TS to me. All we really like is a good recruiter poster. You got some people doing a lot of assuming over there. I've been on this site every day and have not witnessed people here flaming WA. I post on both sites, but less and less over there, because contrary to what some of them posted, people have a better sense of humor here at CRS and no flaming. TS had too many people with their panties in a wad, and  that became cumbersome. WA has some good posters and some are coming over here. It was good to see people like Trouble and NJROLLTIDE posting here. I have to agree with SC, though, we shouldn't be in a forum fight with WA. They have mostly pretty good posters there. Let's don't let a couple of bad apples create animosity.

Wonder how TS is doing? When The Times newspaper in London started charging, they lost 78 percent of their readers.

I am a member of both forums, and hppen to like both forums. Don't get me wrong, there are things I don't like about both too. Bottomline,  I don't see a reason why both can't be successful.  Different strokes for different folks.

As a lonely Bama fan from New Jersey, I am very happy to have 2 places to chat Bama sports.  Good luck with your site, I will be stopping by daily.

Hey Lurkers!  Don't believe the lies.  We are friendly people over here.  We don't post much of anything about you guys over here, except for the occasional poster who comes over from your site.

We certainly don't sign up over at your pacle just to make one post to try to stir up Trouble, then duck and run.  Just sayin'.

Trouble should have stayed around to watch a little longer.  I don't think this topic turned out the way he intended.  That's just how we do things over here.

By the way, we are trying to track down some of the "good" posters from the old TS forum.  A lot of them abandoned the pacle before the shut down happened.  I am thinking of having a contest to see who can track down the most before the first game this fall.  I'm not sure what the prize will be yet.  I'm still thinking about it.

Disclaimer:  It has to be "good' posters.  It doesn't count if you make a bunch of fake accounts or sign up some spammers.  If they end up getting banned it won't count either.

Lurkers:  While you are here check out the Wallpapers section.  I put a new one up a couple of days ago with some old Bear Bryant photos.

Too bad trouble didn't see those.  I know he loved my wallpapers back on TS.  He always had something so say about them.  :D

I posted exclusively at WA for the first two weeks or so after TS exploded, mainly because it seemed like most everybody from TS was going there. Then I checked out here, and have enjoyed it more. No offense to the posters on WA, because I got to appreciate many of them on TS, and I think WA does a great job with its news. Its just not my cup of tea. I prefer the more safe for family viewing here. I do hope the best for WA in the future (since we are all Bama fans).

But I will say this, this is the dead time of year, people are going outside more and there is not decent sprots.  The people who live and breathe internet drama declared tidesports dead about this time every year.  

It's weird to me they still start threads about us or even think about us.  Ill even.

Well now they are signing up here so they can post a link back to their thread over there just to make sure we see it.

It's pretty sad actually.

They have a real complex about this site. We almost never post about them, but they post a LOT about this site. Then, they complain about us posting about them. Many are just very immature young people who think talking tough and cursing makes them "cool". In truth, they are insecure and know their behavior is unacceptable but they know dads's not around to supervise them, so they act out. When they grow up, they will realize this.

Without looking, I would wager it's probably only 5 or 6 dudes who live on the internet trying to entertain themselves.

Lurkers:  I think there is a lot more humor here, but it is of the high brow variety.  Check out the bump thread.

We don't have to curse to use humor. If it's funny, it's funny. You don't need cheap laughs using humor if you really have something funny to say. It takes more intelligence to be funny using one's imagination, instead of foul language to try and get a cheap laugh. I will continue to visit their site, but I probably won't post. No animosity towards them, it's just too silly and immature for me.

Just thought I'd drop my .02 in here. I joined WA but I don't think I've ever posted over there - unless it was the first day or so. After reading their thread, I have to say "WHAT?" I bet if we could could all the times that WA has been mentioned here (outside of threads like this), we would have less than 10 posts w/WA in them. For the most part, we are like two different sites with the same goal - to provide information about our Tide and to converse with our "friends".  I understand that most of the posters at WA enjoy less/to no moderation. More power to them. If that's what they like, I wish the site great success. There is no reason/need or expectation that only ONE site should be out here. We have a quality site - we do not need to defend ourselves to ANYONE.  We have a site that we are proud of and are proud to recommend to family and friends.  If they want to join us, welcome! If they do NOT want to join, then by all means, enjoy the site you are at.

You don't know me well enough yet.  I was just kidding with them, and it wouldn't matter because I rarely post there.  They put the screen name of females in bright neon pink. Can you imagine CrimsonPhoenix in a lipstick pink?

I don't mind at all having the pink symbol in the avatar section.  I'm happy for anyone to know my gender.... 

They seem to be obsessed with us over there.  I honestly have no idea why they even care whether or not we exist.  Certain people seem to be very sensitive about it and concerned that we might grow a little bit.

In time we will have a ton more activity, it just takes a little while to get a new site established.  So everybody just hang in there for a little while.

I don't really pay that much attention to the stats from the forum software here.  I have the site set up with Google Analytics, which tells you everything you could possibly want to know about your traffic.  One example:  we've had visitors from every state in the nation plus DC, except for Wyoming and Rhode Island.

So all you Alabama fans in New England tell your Rhode Island buddies to check us out.  And to you guys in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, or there abouts do the same for your Wyoming buddies.

And, to me, at least, it's pretty clear why some of the posters there would care. I'll bracket out a section here for you lazy tl;dr readers, feel free to skip it.

TideSports was an interesting blend of posters - some who offered great posts, well thought-out insight (hscoach), and also some really witty antics (Kingpin). Everyone was drawn there not by the readership or the posters there, but rather because it was the official forum for the Tuscaloosa News, as close to an 'official' Alabama football forum as you're going to get. Thus, the two types of posters co-existed out of the common desire to be on TideSports. As time went on, I'm sure that reason became less and less important to some as they formed bonds with other posters.

When the TideSports ship sank, it went down fast. People were scrambling for a place to go - WA was already up and running (an incredible stroke of luck), so they got the lion's share of the displaced posters. It became the default choice mainly because of a lack of alternative. But as it was started by people who were already turned off by some of the over-moderation at TideSports, it also had a distinctly anti-authority flavor to it, and controlled chaos was allowed. This, by it's very nature, encourage people to behave in a juvenille manner.
Once this forum was available, a lot of the posters who that type of environment didn't appeal to came here. The immature posters over there obviously took that as some kind of insult or judgement on their behavior. And since they're fairly anti-authority and loud-mouth reactionary types, the result of that is some posters 'caring' that this site exists. Its very existence, as they see it, is a physical emobodiment of people rejecting their behavior and antics. So they get all bent out of shape and need to get on their soap box and shout and yell about how lame this place is.

I went there because there are a lot of fun posters over there, and this place just took too long to get off the ground.

I didn't post here because initially the site was painfully slow to load, and it had a low member count. I don't come to forums to read blogs. I come to interact, to be entertained. If you don't have a high member count, forums tend to stagnate. Will this place pick up during the season? I'd wager yes. And you'll see more posters here then.

But WA will always have a core membership that's not really going to change, and this forum will probably be the butt of jokes for a while because of the reasons I outlined above, as well as the fact that it is the new home to some former TS mods, whom some members at WA have problems with.

Do your thing, let them do theirs, there will be plenty of people who visit both. But people painting either site with too broad a brush aren't doing either site any favors.

Vertical.  Excelent post. I mostly agree with the posting, but there is just too much hate coming from that place to say they aren't somewhat obsessed. The constan ripping of smithgeneral is realy overkill.
I think you nailed it about the anti-authority mentality. I think that goes back to the age of many of the posters, they are just too immature and respond in an inapropriate manner to express themselves. Also, they want this site to fail as a way of proving their way of behaving is approved by others.

I nominate this thread for the hall of fame. It has been very interesting to read.

Marshall, I'm not sure what happened to you over at Woolly but some would say that what you are doing is no different then what they are doing. It seems there is a lot of unnecessary trashing of both sites. From what I've seen, it was FTBLFN, no one had said anything really until HE started that thread. I'm not trying to be rude or anything like that but the less CRS talks about Woolly and the less Woolly talks about CRS, the better. Hope that doesn't offend because it's not meant to in the least bit. Just some honest thoughts.

That thread is what made me aware of CRS, so therefore, why I am here.

No offense. I'm just giving my opinion and nothing happned to me over there. You'll notice I never metioned any poster's name, I never wished anything bad to happen to someone, I never cursed anyone out, and tried to discuss this in an intelligent manner. I think you agree, that is much different from several of the posters over there. It was more than "just one" poster talking trash over there. Also, I have seen other threads in days and weeks past in which they attack individual posters here, one in particular.

Well vertical we are glad to have you, Welcome. I think this site is great and well mannered and it discusses all sports on a level-headed manner. No disrespect is meant toward any person but it does allow you to post about other teams and what their problems are. Gosh I love it here as you can tell. I hope all you knowledgeable folks hang on and we need a really good recruiting poster. We don't have a Tidal Surge yet or some of those guys but I am hoping we will. You know..I do give you credit for going over and doing what you did.  You're typically very passive unless backed into a corner (as I well recall), but you pretty much drew a line in the sand.  I was reading subsequent posts with my breath held, waiting the inevitable "remarks" coming your way.  Which, of course, they did.

I hate you allowed yourself to be put in a position where you'd suffer the abuse you did, but that did take great courage.  And just to piss 'em off....yeah.  Here's a  #+   ;)

Welll if taken in perspective we welcome the thread but not in a bad way. I can assure you all the posters here wish no bad luck to any poster or any site. We do however love to have great discussions and I think as I have said before, SUPERCOACH is the best owner. I might be a little prejuidice now so take it with a grain of salt. lol, RTR!
