Title: Alabama Travels To LSU In Important SEC Match-Up (12:30 SEC Network) Post by: pmull on February 23, 2013, 08:58:17 AM Quote For the second time in two weeks, the Alabama men's basketball team will take on the LSU Tigers on Saturday afternoon in an important Southeastern Conference match-up. The contest is set to tipoff at 12:30 p.m. CT from the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and will be televised on the SEC Network. “We’re looking forward to the challenge of going on the road again and playing a team in LSU that is playing really good basketball right now,” UA head coach Anthony Grant said. “They’re winners in two of their last three, six of their last nine. [They’re a] very talented team, as we’re aware of. Last time we played them, a couple of weeks ago, it was a highly contested game. We were fortunate to win as it came down to the final possession of the game. Our guys are familiar with who they are and we understand how difficult it is any time you go on the road in this league so we have to be at our best.” The Crimson Tide (18-8, 10-3 SEC) enters the game alone in second place overall in the SEC standings. UA is one of the hottest teams in the league, having won four straight and 10 of its last 12 games coming into Saturday’s showdown. Most recently, the Tide captured a 64-56 victory over Mississippi State on Wednesday night. Sophomore guard Rodney Cooper recorded his first career double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while junior guard Trevor Releford added 17 points and five steals. http://www.rolltide.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/022213aac.html Title: Re: Alabama Travels To LSU In Important SEC Match-Up (12:30 SEC Network) Post by: pmull on February 23, 2013, 09:03:12 AM The most important game of the year so far. We have 5 regular season games remaining and we need to finish strong. A road win at LSU will keep us in the NCAA Tournament discussion. A loss would mean we have to win out including a road trip to Florida.
Jacobs and Steele are questionable. Controling JOB 3 will be important. Roll Tide. We need a good effort today. LilBAMAWV has been nursing a bad ankle for the last couple of weeks. He rolled it in a pickup game against some JC guys in Houston. Poor ol' BAMAWV just woke up from a nap and had some breathing difficulties. But, hauling a nebulizer and a 300' drop cord, I'm still pretty sure the two of us could have improved on Bama's 1st half of basketball today at LSU. Bama down 1-- 3:45 to go--1st half Title: Re: Alabama Travels To LSU In Important SEC Match-Up (12:30 SEC Network) Post by: BAMAWV on February 23, 2013, 01:37:07 PM No damage done. He went head up 3 or four times, scoring all but 1. 10 points--which could have been more if they'd quit throwing him the ball double, and once triple teamed, down low. Dishing to him below the waist is just asking for a strip. Anything the officials gave LSU was kinda made up for by them shooting 10% or less at the line. Lady luck kinda balances things out over time but it hurt the Tide especially hard today. :( Title: Re: Alabama Travels To LSU In Important SEC Match-Up (12:30 SEC Network) Post by: SUPERCOACH on February 23, 2013, 04:17:52 PM LSU and home cooking , gotta love it ... :wall: our boys played hard :worship: the refs played harder :lol2: This is one of the biggest things I don't like about basketball. There is just to much ref opinion involved. Most close games like this ultimately get decided by which way the ref makes a call. I'm not saying they intentionally sway the out come of the game. I'm saying they are human, they make mistakes, and their mistakes impact the outcome more than any other sport. Had we won, LSU could say the same exact thing. What a heartbreaker. In short, see my sig. In football-- and moreso in other conferences-- I've watched officials actively take a hand in making sure the conference leader pulls out a possible upset. The Big East officials were/are especially bad about that and knew where their bread was buttered (and who was signing their paychecks).Title: Re: Alabama Travels To LSU In Important SEC Match-Up (12:30 SEC Network) Post by: pmull on February 23, 2013, 05:57:05 PM LSU and home cooking , gotta love it ... :wall: our boys played hard :worship: the refs played harder :lol2: This is one of the biggest things I don't like about basketball. A 10 point lead with 3 minutes and change left, and once again Bama players take their foot off the gas and allow the other team to play catch-up. That's the frustrating part. How many times has that happened this year? Methinks CAG needs to borrow a page from the CNS playbook, or speech department, plus an offseason conditioning program with an emphasis on finishing what you start.
The good part is the fight the players showed once the game was on the line, Releford's awesome performance, Cooper's ice water veins, Jacobs stepping up his game on offense, though he was unable to stop LSU defensively. You had to notice, WV, how much easier LSU scored under the basket once Gueye fouled out? |
