Now that you are no longer an administrator....how about just chiming in as a poster....we would all like that.

I miss all those posts about equipment and machines. ???

Add me to the list of folks that would like to see you stay around as a contributor (or mod).  You've got a lot of knowledge/smarts to add.

I'm back.

Small disagreement between me and SC.

We got it worked out.

Admin>mod

Completely unrelated to Jody.  Glad to see he is back and hope we can move forward.   I dont believe that I was racist in the thread he is remembering, but that's the way he recalls it then I am sorry for making comments that may have been hateful and have left such a long lasting impact on him.

While I am on this, my father was a one of those redneck racists for a large part of his life, not particularly hateful, just typical south country boy raised in talladega in the 50's and 60's.  Anyway, he remarried and the daughter of his wife married a black man.  They also have a child.  I can tell you he changed completely, and loved that little girl more than anything in the world.

At my fathers funeral, his brother made several crude comments about the other family, since the parents of the husband and the husband showed up, there were 3 black people there.  He only said to me and a couple of others, but it made him look ugly, stupid, and hateful, and similarly made me proud of my father for growing out of it, no matter how long it took him.

Roll Tide.

;D  Glad you're back.  You have made yourself important to many of us the past few years.  Some of us have real history together at TS and now here.

Good story, and thanks for sharing. We can only control what we do in life, how we act. It's how we respond to others that defines what we are about and what we have learned in life. My best friend in life was Black. On a bad day at school,in Montgomery,in the 60's he literally snatched me from the jaws of certain futility,as I was being jumped by his own friends who simply didn't like me because I was white. We are still good friends to this day,and he is a very successful Architect in Dallas Tx. We talk 3-4 times a year. We all have it in us,but not all choose to live it. Good to have you back General

Cool story about your dad.  Thanks for sharing it.  My wife's grandfather was the most racist person I ever met.  He died before we started fostering children but I wish he hadn't.  We fostered many kids of various ethnicities and even wound up adopting two girls that are 1/2 Hispanic-1/2 white and two boys that are 1/2 black.  The boys especially are just too great to imagine and I wish that he could have met them.  You can ask Jamos or Taz as well as several other members here about Runt.

I've heard of runt, nothing but good things.

Dont want to go off on a whole thing here, but I am pretty strong believer in nurture over nature (regarding behavior, fancy pants is a whole other issue) and that the issue with young black men is the pattern of no father figure and terrible role models.

Well, I additionally that because of this social pattern that they dont get very many second chances.  I dont want to get into a whole otehr thing again, but I was quite the trouble maker, but I always got released to my dad and if I had messed something up we fixed it.

My point is a judge sees a white kid in a tie with his dad standing there and is pretty likely to toss it with restitution or in the case of minor consumption and the like keep handing out 1st offenses.  Where as a young black kid probably doesnt get those second, third, 4th, 5th, opportunities to not screw up.
