Title: Mal Moore to Step Down as UA Athletics Director
Post by: pmull on March 20, 2013, 03:04:35 PM
Quote
"As many of you may know, due to factors related to my health, I am at a point that I can no longer fulfill my duties as athletics director in the true championship manner the position requires," said Moore. "While I have to focus on my health issue, I look forward to maintaining an ongoing working relationship with this great University as special assistant to Dr. Bonner.   I know I can count on each of you to continue your unequaled support for me and The University of Alabama.

"I cannot adequately express what the University means to me.  It has been a part of my life for more than 50 years, and I feel honored to have served the Crimson Tide as a player, coach and administrator. I am so appreciative of the University administration, coaches, staff, student-athletes and fans who have made my tenure as director so very meaningful, memorable and special."

 :(

Mal Moore is a first class gentleman. He served the university as a player, coach and administrator. He will be missed. Under his watch our facilities and athletic programs are among the best in the nation. Thanks Mal for a job well done.

Coach Moore will be hard to replace with someone who will stay at the job as long as he did. God Bless you and our prayers for you and your family extend eternally. ROLL TIDE ROLL!

I hope not, he's 62 years old. We need fresh blood, not someone on social security. I would like to see someone 45-50 years old who is going to be around a while or someone there now. I wonder if Sarah Patterson is in the mix?

 ???

My hat's off to MM. A job very well done.

I think whoever replaces him will be chosen by CNS.

I think Shane Lyons may be the next AD. He replaced Dave Hart in 2011 in running the daily operations of the athletic dept. He was the associate commissioner of the ACC. You have to think when he was hired the university was thinking Mal Moore would be retiring soon since he was over 70 at the time Lyons was hired.

Here is an article from RollTide.com about him being hired and tells about his background.
