Title: Why hasn't Jesse Williams been drafted? Post by: Jamos on April 27, 2013, 06:21:20 AM The NFL draft has had a lot of people scratching their heads at some of the selections that have been made and there's one that has me wondering why he hasn't been drafted. I thought Jesse would go no later than the third round but that's been proven wrong and it has me wondering what has happened. I know he backed off of his weight lifting performance in the combine, could there be a physical problem that has popped it's ugly head up that is affecting his not being chosen? :dunno:
Maybe today will be a better day and he will go early in the 4th round, I've got my fingers crossed. Title: Re: Why hasn't Jesse Williams been drafted? Post by: 2Stater on April 27, 2013, 06:46:42 AM I am befuddled, as well. His named is hardly being mentioned outside of the graphic showing him as the 7th best available on Kiper's list. I thought Barrett would have gone by the 3rd round, also. Oh well, somebody will come away with a couple of good steals.
Title: Re: Why hasn't Jesse Williams been drafted? Post by: Marshal Dillon on April 27, 2013, 09:02:16 AM I think Jesse is considered too one-dimensional, he's a run stopper. Cody was drafted in the first round for Baltimore and now he is the backup due to his lack of a pass rush. I have no idea why Barrett Jones is still available. Maybe if he had played one position his entire college career, he would have been drafted by now. I think teams are making a mistake in not selecting him at center or even guard. I think both Lester & Jones are a big steal in the 4th round, now.
 Title: Re: Why hasn't Jesse Williams been drafted? Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on April 27, 2013, 09:28:10 AM Jesse is considered raw. He's been playing football for about a 1/3 of the time a lot of the guys in the draft have been.
He does have a lot of physical ability and obviously a good work ethic though. He'll make it. Title: Re: Why hasn't Jesse Williams been drafted? I think Robert Lester will be picked up sometime today as well. Title: Re: Why hasn't Jesse Williams been drafted? Post by: Catch Prothro on April 27, 2013, 11:35:56 AM Jesse is considered raw. He's been playing football for about a 1/3 of the time a lot of the guys in the draft have been. I think Jesse is more versatile than Cody, there is talk of him playing D tackle. But yeah, he hasn't been playing football as long as most of the guys.He does have a lot of physical ability and obviously a good work ethic though. He'll make it. Post by: ricky023 on April 27, 2013, 12:09:59 PM I was just watching and it looks as if they are waiting to get these players a chocolate chip cookie price. RTR!

Title: Re: Why hasn't Jesse Williams been drafted? Post by: BAMAWV on April 27, 2013, 01:12:14 PM Big drop off each round monetarily. The little things that CNS emphasizes translates into zeros on pro contracts. JW hasn't been anything other than the kind of kid Coach Saban would like to see in all recruits. Good work ethic, team concept driven, never a hint of disciplinary problems. But again the little things, the Kiss concert stuff and cartoons caught my attention, coupled with him playing catch-up on years of American football experience.

Post by: Jamos on April 27, 2013, 06:07:14 PM Jesse Williams to Seattle-- 139 (5th) -- This could be a great fit for him and it's a lot closer to home than if he had signed with some team on the East coast. Seattle is one of those teams that has been trying to get back into the championship mix so I'm excited he's going there and possibly jump right into a playing role. Title: Re: Why hasn't Jesse Williams been drafted? I was beginning to think he had an injury we weren't aware of. Congrats to Jesse for going to a west coast team. I know that will please Kuiyam. Seattle is making some real strides with strategic picks over the last couple of years. They just made a wise pick with Jesse. I am now a Seattle fan, even if Pete Carroll is their head coach. His family was probably hoping for a West Coast team. Best of luck to Jesse! Title: Re: Why hasn't Jesse Williams been drafted? Post by: 2Stater on April 28, 2013, 09:42:45 AM From another forum. Was said to have been pulled from a CBS article, but no link:
Quote fits perfectly with the Seattle style of play, and the Seahawks deserve the right to have their talent evaluation trusted. They found guys who can fit into their strong rotations at defensive tackle and receiver in the third and fourth round, and in the fifth round grabbed a nose tackle who has first-round talent in Alabama's Jesse Williams. Williams was off some teams' draft boards due to his knees -- including Dallas, which was looking hard at this position -- but others weren't nearly as concerned about his health. Even if his career isn't as long and robust as it might be without the medical red flag, in the fifth round, on a roster already worthy of a Super Bowl, it's a mitigated risk. Title: Re: Why hasn't Jesse Williams been drafted? Post by: ricky023 on April 28, 2013, 01:13:42 PM I don't know how his health will affect him, but I do feel in my heart Jesse will give them a 101% every play. Getting him in a late round like this is a steal for Seattle. RTR!

Yeah, I hate he slid so far down the draft list but it may have been a blessing for him, the same with Eddie Lacy. I just don't buy into the knee problem thing, heck every professional player out there has some type of knee injury. I just think his slide was just a part of the professional football horse trading event that happens every year at draft time. |
