Title: MLB Pitcher Hit in Head by Line Drive Has Fractured Skull Post by: Marshal Dillon on May 09, 2013, 03:04:44 PM Do I need to mention he went on the disabled list? Read the entire link, interesting.
:popcorn2: Quote As Happ made clear during his press conference, he did not suffer a concussion, and a CT scan showed no damage to his brain or spine. He did sustain a small skull fracture near his ear and received stiches on his ear. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/eye-on-baseball/22217745/ja-happ-in-good-spirits-likely-to-be-discharged-from-hospital-on-weds Title: Re: MLB Pitcher Hit in Head by Line Drive Has Fractured Skull Post by: SUPERCOACH on May 09, 2013, 04:13:57 PM I saw that yesterday. Yeah, I was wondering how you can have a fractured skull but no concussion. :dunno: Title: Re: MLB Pitcher Hit in Head by Line Drive Has Fractured Skull Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on May 10, 2013, 07:10:36 AM Ouch. Yeah, I was wondering how you can have a fractured skull but no concussion. :dunno: I'm no physician, but from my basic understanding a concussion is usually the result of trauma from the brain crashing against the inside of the skull. From a physics perspective, the skull fracturing would've probably dissipated some of the energy and his brain may have received less trauma. |
