Title: Bama interviews Shelton State's Thompson (Womens Basketball)
Post by: Jamos on May 10, 2013, 06:24:32 AM
This subject was discussed in another thread yesterday as to why hasn't there been any news of a new hire for the women's basketball team. Well, no sooner asked for and here is some news. I wonder if Bill Battle has been reading CRS, there sure was a quick response. ;)

Shelton State may have a fine coach that could lead our team, but this being the only known interview doesn't speak well of our search process.  Have we looked no further than a 20 mile radius?

She has a good resume at the JUCO level. She has been there 15 years and never left for a better begs the question... why not?

We also have interviewed the the Texas Tech coach. I read on another board that we are pursuing former Texas and Duke coach Gail Goestenkors.

We needed a change. I hope this search ends soon and I will be on board with whoever we hire.

Goestenkors would be an incredible hire, but she quit Texas because of burnout in 2012. I would wonder if she has regained her mo-jo for coaching. I really hope we pick a coach with a proven record.

Kristy Curry did great at Purdue. She had a 179-51 record with 86-26 in Big 10. She made the NCAA each year with two sweet 16's, one elite 8 and a runner up finish.

Texas Tech has not been as good. She is 130-98, 46-70 in conference. In seven years she has two one and done in NCAA and two WNIT. She inherited a strong TT program.

She interviewed for the Ohio State job and withdrew when it appeared they were going in a different direction. USC was also interested.

I can't see her being without a job long if she wants one.
