Title: Oklahoma wins Softball College World Series
Post by: Catch Prothro on June 05, 2013, 10:12:18 AM
Against Tennessee.

The first game was scoreless after 7; OK won in 12 innings, 5-3.  Tennessee had a 3-0 lead that they blew, with simple missed fielding errors and pitching fatigue.  Maybe they got their 3 runs and grew complacent, but the game wasn't over, and OK made them pay for it.

OK scored three runs in the third inning of the second game against TN's back-up pitcher.  Their starter, Ellen Renfroe, did a very good job after that of holding OK scoreless in the rest of the game (and in regulation of the first game), but TN couldn't get any runs and fell 3-0.

I watched that first game.  I couldn't believe UT let that game slip away after they fought so hard.  They were down to 1 strike away from winning.  I didn't bother watching the second game because I didn't expect UT to recover from that first loss.

That man that pitches for Oklahoma is pretty good.

We were very fortunate to beat a good OK team last year.

Yep.  OK had most of their players back this year, and it doesn't hurt to play a few miles from home either.

Tennessee's pitcher, Ellen Renfroe, came on strong at the end of the season this year and should be tough next year.  (Unless she starts dating a football player.)

Bama was a very good team last year and used a strong mental and pitching game to beat them. They knocked Ricketts out of the game twice in that series, so to call it fortunate I don't think so, Bama was the better team.

I agree with Jamos on this one.  OU showed signs of that same mental collapse during game 1.  Had UT pulled that one out I think they had an excellent chance to win the series in spite of being a huge underdog.

I don't remember every detail, but at the time it sure felt like we would've never won had the weather not gone bad.
