Title: Mixed messages about University damage Post by: Old Tider on April 30, 2011, 05:47:13 PM The University said the campus escaped building damage, but an article in the New York Times quotes Coach Andy Phillips as saying the campus was devastated, that there was nothing left from the Coliseum to a mile and half away.
I'd appreciate a better picture from those of you close to the scene. Title: Re: Mixed messages about University damage Post by: McBaman on April 30, 2011, 09:06:58 PM I'm in central Florida and will help as best I can. Tuscaloosa News has a track of where the storm went on their website. You might want to look at it. It went south of the campus, so there may have been some relatively minor damage on the campus proper but nothing like the total destruction in the path. I've read that Coleman and Ferguson are being used as shelters so they must be in good shape.
Classes, final exams and graduation have been cancelled. Don't think classes will resume until August. I think the admin wants to get as many students as possible out of town where they will be better off. I jokingly told a friend down here that the statue of The Bear protected the campus. Who knows. Maybe he somehow intervened. Hope this helps. Title: Re: Mixed messages about University damage Post by: lakemann on April 30, 2011, 09:13:29 PM It is fine. They will resume normal operations Monday. Except no finals and graduation will not be until August. No structural damage to any building. Did get a few trees.
Title: Re: Mixed messages about University damage Post by: MDB Tide Roll on April 30, 2011, 09:14:22 PM The University announced that Intersession and Summer Sessions will go on as scheduled.
http://www.ua.edu/ McBaman, was the timing planned to keep the Cow College from their trip to the White House to celebrate their Scampionship, too? Title: Re: Mixed messages about University damage Post by: ricky023 on May 01, 2011, 03:56:01 PM LOL, this is some wild posts. I think Auburn is going to help out though that is pretty nice of them. RTR!
Title: Re: Mixed messages about University damage Post by: pmull on May 01, 2011, 04:47:49 PM I understand there is no damage to university buildings. Off campus housing took a big hit. Someone told me you can see the colisem from McFarland Mall. Total devastation in that area.
Title: Re: Mixed messages about University damage Post by: Old Tider on May 01, 2011, 05:45:07 PM Thanks for the information. I was also wondering how BDS would hold up to a direct hit. It looks solid but there would be so things flying around.
Title: Re: Mixed messages about University damage Post by: cbbama99 on May 01, 2011, 05:50:18 PM I think it went just south (north?) of BDS, OT, so it should be fine. I also think the stadium is being used as a staging area for some the cleanup efforts.
