Title: Alabama athletic budget, revenues on the rise Post by: Jamos on July 27, 2013, 08:38:16 AM “This is an interesting business if you can call it a business, which I guess it is,” said Battle, 71, who was hired in March to replace the late Mal Moore, who was at the time hospitalized with a pulmonary condition. “It’s like running a company that has 21 divisions and two of them are profitable.”

Title: Re: Alabama athletic budget, revenues on the rise Post by: Marshal Dillon on July 28, 2013, 04:12:14 PM This really does not sound like a lot of money when you consider 8 home sellouts of 100,000, the SEC Championship, National Championship, & TV revenues.
Quote UA’s net profit for athletics in 2012 was more than $12.3 million, according to documents obtained by The Tuscaloosa News under an open records law request, and the average profit over the last six years has been more than $13 million. ??? If I understand the numbers that is for entire athletic department and not just football. Football money paid for the non-revenue sports. We have also spend a large amount on new and upgraded facilities. It must not be easy to turn a profit. Only 23 out of 228 programs showed a profit. Title: Re: Alabama athletic budget, revenues on the rise Post by: N.AL-Tider on July 29, 2013, 10:48:00 AM Football had $40+ million in profit last year. That is both impressive and sad at the same time. Impressive that football profits that much. Sad that other sports lose enough to bring that $40+ million down to around $12.5 mil....Maybe they ought to consider eliminating some sports that are that detrimental to the entire department.Title: Re: Alabama athletic budget, revenues on the rise Post by: Catch Prothro on July 29, 2013, 03:42:10 PM Football had $40+ million in profit last year. In fact, a lot of companies will release 2 sets of books during earnings reports: one set that complies with IRS code and takes full advantage of all the tax loop holes, and another set that follows GAAP (generally accepted accounting principals) that are the "real" books. Apple did that just the other day. They have to release the real books or they are subject to liability from investors. However they need the IRS books to comply with tax laws and minimize taxation. Chech, I will show great restraint and refrain from making any political commentary on what I think about this system. :-[ Title: Re: Alabama athletic budget, revenues on the rise Post by: pmull on July 30, 2013, 01:39:59 PM Across all sports, except baseball which is just now getting attention, all of our sports facilities have been renovated, expanded or improved over the last several years. I know Mal Moore raised many, many millions through donations to pay for these upgrades. I also know the softball program raised most of their own money for their new locker rooms, players lounge and indoor batting cages.
My question is does any of the cost of our sports facility building program come from the athletic budget or is it 100% donations?
