Title: "Tide defense could be in trouble"
Post by: JohnCarlisle on May 02, 2011, 10:04:20 AM
http://cfn.scout.com/2/1058648.html

This was probably discussed back when this article came out. But apparently Barrett Sallee, writer for collegefootballnews.com, is an idiot of unfathomable porportions, or he just doesn't know anything about football. In discussing Jesse Williams, he says
Quote
If he can fill the void Cody left behind two years ago, the Crimson Tide defense will be scary good. If he can’t, there isn’t a reliable Plan B, and the Tide defense could be in trouble

He points out earlier that
Quote
The Crimson Tide finished sixth in the SEC in sacks, and next-to-last in the conference in tackles for loss
Apparently, he does not realize that this defense he thinks so poorly of finished with the best defense in the SEC and the 5th best overall D in the nation.

This guy must be a closet barner or a big ten homer. Our D didn't get a lot of sacks last year because our 2 best pass-rushers, Dareus and Upshaw, were injured for much of the year. Cody,as great as he was, had very little impact on the pass rush because he was not in the game on 3rd downs or obvious passing downs. Cody was a run stuffer, plain and simple. For this idiot to make the leap of dubious logic that the lack of a run stuffer in the middle hurt our pass rush, is ludicrous at best, and malicious at worst. This article was poorly researched and badly written. How do people like this have jobs as sports writers when they have no qualifications?

I also think the 2011 defense may be in trouble. I think there are at least 4 or 5 teams that may score on us.

After we play the writer's favorite school, then read his articles.

Our problem I see in our defense is the fact that learning how to line-up for the different packages. The other thing being who goes off the field and on in the correct order. RTR!

The only problem this defense will have is deciding who goes first in the buffet line.

Along with the injuries to Darius and Upshaw, many teams were incorporating a quick passing game. Especially, where they dumped to the backs, where coverage was weak at times.

Painfully true at times.

I think the upfront knowledge and speed now solves that problem. RTR!
