Title: Pat Dye doesn't want Rice on selection committee
Post by: cbbama99 on October 07, 2013, 07:11:03 PM
It never takes long for Pat to say something, ummm, interesting, once he starts talking:

I think he has a point. I think folks on the committee should have some deep involvement with football, either as a former player, coach, or maybe AD. Condi is brilliant and I like her, but she is not someone to be determining who should be playing for the NC. May as well pick Jim from Tuscaloosa or Darryl from Columbus.

Perhaps, but maybe sometimes he should just think it and not say it.

I say we nominate the winner of our pick-'em contest.
That's the person you want making PICKS.

"All she knows about football is what somebody told her," Dye told the WJOX morning show, The Opening Drive. "Or what she read in a book, or what she saw on television. To understand football, you've got to play with your hand in the dirt."

Well, I guess that makes me and many others.....(http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n313/NightBiker07/Emoticons/redneck.gif)

I think many of us on here watch a lot more games than the people that are on the committee.

I have no idea how much she knows about football.  Probably more than Pat Dye thinks, but much less than someone who has spent time in the film room.

Like I said, I like & admire Condi, but she already has a full load. A few examples:

Quote
Rice currently serves on the board of C3, an energy software company, and Makena Capital, a private endowment firm. In addition, she is a member of the boards of the Commonwealth Club, the Aspen Institute, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Previously, Rice has also served on various additional boards, for example: the Chevron Corporation; the Charles Schwab Corporation; the Transamerica Corporation; the University of Notre Dame; and, the San Francisco Symphony Board of Governors./quote]

She is an avid golfer and concern pianist, but more importantly, she is a member of the Augusta National Golf Club. I do think she would make an excellent Commissioner of Pro Football.

Besides MD, do you really want it to be known that you agreed with Pat Dye?  :-\

LOL! Remember, Coach Bryant talked Dye into becoming a coach and had him as an assistant for 9 years. Are you criticizing the judgement of Coach Bryant?

I don't think CB is criticizing Coach Bryant. I think it is a direct shot at MD. Sometimes I just don't understand what CB is thinking but this time I do.  ;)

Sounds like an insult and a direct attack on Coach Bryant to me. I am deeply offended.

I think the larger point here is that the time and effort of someone with CR's considerable knowledge of public and world affairs would be poorly spent watching hours and hours of college football games.

Pat DYE ain't he the one that couldn't win a big game? Why does it matter to him, oh I see, he doesn't want her because she is smarter than he is and probably 100% more honest. RTR!

the story I hear is that the selection committee members will not
be allowed to vote on teams they are affiliated with , is that right ?

and why do we need a  selection committee in the first place ?
for trying to determine the best four teams ?

the backlash from this is eminent on unhappy teams ...
I mean , just selecting the selection committee member panel has been
somewhat of a fiasco ...

You're right.
Good football teams don't need a committee to help them get ranked.

ESPN just announced that the 13 members of this selection committee will
be announced in Dallas next Wednesday
they called them "The Unlucky 13"
go figure huh ?

I think I found the problem   :dunno:

is this what they are trying to fix ?   :lol2:

Probably.

The push started from all the other conferences, because they weren't getting a team in the BCSCG as often as in the past -- especially after Bama played LSU.  It has been SEC v. VictimX for several years now.  When SEC teams (like Auburn) were being left out, the SEC suggested a playoff, but conferences like the Big12, which had a run with OK and TX, wouldn't hear of it.  The Big12 hasn't been in the game since 2009, the Big12 2007, the ACC 2000, the BigEast 2002.

The committee was supposed to be filled with football savy former coaches, etc., but it is looking way too political now.  I'm afraid the committee is going to look something like this:
